Can someone name most of them at least by Zone. I can name a few. Concacaf: USA Vs Mexico Conmebol: Brazil Vs Argentina Uruguay Vs Chile Peru Vs Chile Peru Vs venezuela Colombia Vs Ecuador Venezuela Vs Bolivia Anymore from Africa, Asia, Europe, or even Oceania?
My family, friends and I get more excited for a Chile vs Argentina game than a Chile vs Uruguay game.
England vs Germany England vs Argentina England vs Portugal England vs Romania England vs Scotland Holland vs Germany Spain vs Portugal Iran vs USA Iran vs Iraq (what's the difference?) Italy vs Anyone Russia vs Chechnya Revelian
I would say Italy-Germany always provides an interesting encounter and some of the most memorable matches.
Europa Greece vs Turkey Russia vs Poland/Ukraine Sweden vs Denmark/Norway Croatia vs Serbia Romania vs Bulgaria Czech Republic vs Slovakia Afrika Cameroon vs Nigeria Algeria vs Morrocco Zimbabwe vs Zambia/South Africa Asia South Korea vs Japan Thailand vs Cambodia
Eh? England v Romania???? England national team's classic games these days are: England v Germany England v Argentina and increasingly England v France
Agree with that post, don't know what that mug was on about talking about Romania. However, I would say that Scotland is still and always will be the biggest derby match for England even if it hasn't happened much lately.
Isn't Thailand vs. Singapore more of a rivalry? I mean, Cambodia sucks like no other, while Thailand and Singapore are the only respectable teams in southeast Asia (they always seem to meet in the finals of ASEAN and Tiger Cup tourneys).
It might be for the Scots, but not for us since the 80s. I always think that England are on a hiding to nothing against Scotland. England are always expected to win and yet if we don't it's a moral victory for Scotland. Frankly I can't wait to get any Eng-Scotland games out of the way so that I don't have to listen to all the rubbish that goes with it.
In footballing terms I would say Italy v Germany always produce great games. Although this thread doesn't seem to be so much about the good clash of footballing styles and more about nationalistic hatred among fans. If we're going in that direction we could say: Germany v about 10 countries England v anyone Greece v Turkey In fact you copuld probably name just about every neighbouring country in the world.
Because, as a German, I can only think of the Dutch, and perhaps the English on a secondary level, due moslty to their own antics with the whole "2 WWs and a WC" crap! So basically, I am wondering who the other 8 are??
Just think of another 8 european countries who were against Germany during WWII and there you go. But if you are adamant in making me name 8 countries with fans who don't like you then I will. - Poland - Russia - Northern Ireland - Wales - Scotland - Belarus - Ukraine - Greece
Let's see...the thread title says "National Classics" and we got the likes of Belarus V Germany. What part of "National Classics" did you not get? No one is talking about teams that the fans don't like because of WWII!!! That does not make it a national classic. History certainky has a role, Japan v Korea and England v Argnetina as does being neiborly rivals like Arg and Brazil and Mex v USA but c'mon, would you seriously consider Wales v Germany a classic?? You can't be this thick! In Germany, the only true rivals are Holland, then England, nothing out of that can be considered a "Classic"... You fool!!
And if you would have understood my origonal post you would know that I was saying that this thread actually has very little to do with football and more to do with historic rivalries between countries. A classic is a great game and bitter rivals rarely play out great games from a nuetrals perspective. That is why I said I consider Gemany v Italy to be a classic. You have no reason to insult me and it achieves nothing as you are hiding behind your monitor.
