Seem to remember the old boys at FIFA raising a stink about it. There was one instance somewhere in the NASL that the ref actually made the grounds crew remove the artwork. But it was original thinking like that that added to the NASL atmosphere (although sending out free Tornado tickets to Dallas area tornado victims wasn't one of Berg's better brainstorms).

Possibly but I think NASL never really herd from FIFA until around 1983 when they started banning the shootout and the 35 yard line. Uncle Joa Havalenge was a sort of dictator in those days...

Brazilian star Pele joined the New York Cosmos, and North American Soccer League attendance immediately increased. Pele gets $7 million over 3 years.

    Those kits were purple!

The former Washington Darts, and soon-to-be Miami Toros and Ft. L. Strikers. Still have a Gatos bumper sticker somewhere in the mess.

Photo must've been shot on the road. Don't recall them ever having that many people in the seats at home!

Could be but why would they do that? I mean this was before those days of superimposing wasn't it?:D
I think they were maybe playing an exhibition against a South American giant or maybe Santos Pele squad or something like that.

Look at the horrible X-Acto knife job....you can still see the training field behind some of them on their shoulders and around their heads.

Heck no. The Soviets had been doing it for decades, adding and subtracting people from photos all the time, like just after one of Stalin's purges, or a cosmonaut got drummed out of the corps (which is why some of them looked like they had hands growing out of their shoulders :D). Imagine what they could have done with Photoshop!

They could have made the picture of Oswald look like it was really him (you know, get the shadows on the body AND face to match) - Oswald backyard photo theory
