I am told they were based on the 1977 away jersey from this website, http://home.att.net/~nasl/jerseys/tornado.htm.
It might be one of these http://www.isfa.com/server/web/Pele/images/photos/nyc/ny_play_010.jpg http://home.att.net/~nasl/jerseys/tornado.htm La locura rojinegra
Note Jason Kreis, in the red jersey on the left... Best example I could find from Yahoo's site, really... Cheers, William
The key is the simplicity. I'd love to see them change the present one's just to have the patch (small) and the number.
I like the current jerseys. A retro jersey game here and there is fine, but there is a reason why it is called retro. La locura rojinegra.
I'm with Chamo on this one, it just looked weird to see them in those kits. But then again, I wasn't around for the NASL, so what do I know.
I'll take "Chicago-Dallas" for $800 and the answer is..."Twice" "How many times has Dallas handed Chicago their ass 3-1 and owned them throughout the game?" "CORRECT, NOW AND FOREVER" Segroves, go away you're not funny.
I'm no Burn fan but those Retro Jerseys were hot. They look much better than the current kits. The retros look more traditional. With a little fixing up to make em look more modern, they would probably be one of the leagues best kits. The Red Jerseys, white shorts and red socks are a hot combo. And their probably better than wearing the black in the Dallas heat. What do you guys think?
They looked ok but the Burn are Red and Black. I am expecting more of a Flamengo look at the next redesign myself.
Ya'll may not believe me, but this was one of the pts I suggested to the commish & later a contact w/ the Burn 3yrs ago. I said it would be neat if the mls teams payed homage to the NASL by wearing their "classic" jerseys and adaptations of older mls kits(ala black on white Revolution kit worn only once). Isn't that cool? Two current MLS stars(mathis v kreis) are shown battling for a ball and having the skills no American possesed in the old NASL, yet they wear their kits as a symbol of how far we've come as a soccer nation. I think the current burn unis are just shy of perfect, if they could just implement the Shell Oil Pegasas symbol and rename themselves the Diablos. I'd like to know who is pictured battling w/ pele and 4 what team in that other link. Those jerseys were pretty tight too. Pardon the pun.
For what it's worth, here's my opinion. I'm a Metro fan and was at the game. Both retro uniforms are better than what we have. Just get rid of the 70's collar and modernize it. I hate the metro uni's, name and logo, and almost all MLS kits. Ironically, your current home red and black is better looking than ours. Wanna trade? The NASL kits are more simple and traditional. But hey, that's what I prefer.
Re: Stuck in the 80's so what do I know? "Less than Zero" was a film of the mid 1980's that depicted Mike Segroves working REALLY hard for cocaine.
Re: Re: Stuck in the 80's so what do I know? it's always nice to have some help with segroves, thanx enderjed.
the kits.... Ah... I remember growing up at the old Tornado games as a kid. Ken Cooper was THE man. As for the kits, I have to say that the Burn and DC United have the coolest. Having been a Burn fan for so long, it was quite difficult to get into my new team's (Galaxy) colors. Still don't like 'em. But I have to say one thing: the Burn's third (black and grey) kits are simply the best all time. They remind me of EVIL TEAM from the amazing film SHAOLIN SOCCER. Tommy Mack
