I'm not fully getting the connection to layoffs. Aren't more and mroe regular joes playing the options game? Or do you think NASAQ is going to be stealing business / market share from others?

Well, I was refering to the continued loss of Wall Street (primiarily trading) jobs due to decimilization, and computerized order-handling (which NASDAQ really is for all intents and purposes.)

It happened to the Nasdaq equity markets, and now looks to continue into options. The only reason the NYSE is still managing to stay afloat (although they have taken a solid hit, and moral is low) is incredible power of their lobbyists and the politics and palm pressing involved. But only that can last so long.

I fully expect the NYSE to be nothing but a museum, or perhaps a skeleton crew of workers monitoring machines within 5-10 years.
