Rudi Garcia is the real-life version of Steve Martin's Pink Panther, he can't be coaching Napoli. I'll give Mazzarri the benefit of the doubt, but truth be told we could have had someone much worse, I remember big clubs like Man United and Tottenham hiring Ryan Giggs and Ryan Mason as caretakers; at least Mazzarri is an actual manager. But he'll have to come up with something completely different than what he's used to.
lindstrøm needs space to run into, we have to play faster and more vertically to utilize him, otherwise, he is almost no better than Zerbin... yet. In general, I think this team would benefit a lot from playing more vertically because that's also how you get the best out of Osimhen and Kvara.
Yeah I can't believe it's not a bigger subject, I genuinely believe we could get 5 points more a season with a shorter pitch. I believe Man City and Arsenal have the shortest pitches in the PL with 103 meters. It can't be a coincident. In comparison ours is an abysmal 7 meters more to run before getting to goal
Mazzarri told ADL that he would continue with 4-3-3 because that’s the teams DNA. I want to see how long this will last. I can tell you now, Mazzarri never liked these inverted wingers like Politano and low center of gravity regista’s like Lobotka.
RE: Pitch being longer Yeah but wouldn't the Visiting team also face the same issue? Also, since Napoli players would be more accustomed it, they would be at an advantage.
Oh yeah the guy who has been playing 3 at the back for his entire career is going to change and play with a back 4....
The problem is Napoli is the only team in Serie A to run on that pitch for halv its games. That's 5 meters more for like 25-30 games a season. The opponent only does it for one match a season. And thats just the physical aspect. The tactical one is obvious imo. We want to break play and when we do we want to be as close to the opponent goal as possible. Its also easier to get to chances when you are closer to goal, whether that's breaking play, passing around the box or even doing early crosses which Rui is good at. One could argue that's there more space for osimhen to run into but even that is useless since 95% of teams come to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to sit deep or play with a deep backline like Italiano's fiorentina. I wish we could just get our own stadium one day
It seems like the Ultras are not convinced with the usual “the coach is always responsible” excuse. They left a message to the players, saying that winning the Scudetto does not mean they are immune to criticism, although this time it was the coach who got the sack. I don't think the Ultras will care much whether a loss in the next matches is the coach's fault, or God's, or the players', or the president's. Good times ahead.
At Atalanta Why is Gollini starting ahead of Meret even though Meret is available? Is this some sort of way Mazzarri gives a nod in support to Rudi Garcia?
Nice pin-point cross and header with power and placemeny by Kvara. 0-1. Gollini with a nice Save on the Restart.
Really important points today. I mostly saw the second half. Passing was generally very clean, positioning was better than I was seeing under Garcia, and there is a visible difference in the level of effort. I almost had a heart attack when Osimhen extended into that tip to Elmas coming off an injury but it worked out. Hopefully we can hit the extend that good button again.
