It's occurred to me that the US this year has players who's ancestors came from Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe along with players who's roots in North America stretch back over a century (or more--many "white" people who can trace their ancestry back 200 years or so have Native American blood in them). Is there any other WC team (past or present) who has players with ancestors from 5 of the 6 FIFA confederations?
I could be completely off the mark, but France comes to mind as being pretty diverse in its player base..
Sure, but now that Karembeu & Djorkaeff's gone, they only have players who hail from Europe and Africa. Even in 1998, did they have any who's ancestors came from N. America or S. America?
People like Thierry Henry, Eric Abidal, Lilian Thuram, and William Gallas have West Indian roots. Geographically, the West Indies are considered part of North America. Florent Malouda was actually born in French Guiana, on the northeastern end of South America. Even though David Trezeguet's forbears were very obviously French, it seems that based on his complexion, they quite probably intermingled with the various ethnicities to be found in Argentina.
