...and that's where I think it will end. I anticipate Chivas going after all the latin guys they can get their hands on. I anticipate RSL going after experienced defenders (save for Walker, who is a shoe-in for the second overall pick). I don't think any of the high-priced keepers in the draft (Walker, Brown, Garlick) will be selected. I also expect that, for the most part, these teams will stay away from transitional internationals. I'd be shocked if all five of Chivas's TI's weren't Mexican, and from what I hear RSL has their own guys to bring in as well. The TI's they do pick up will likely be cut or traded (and, FWIW, I would happily take Erick Scott off of anyone's hands). I also don't know what's going on with individual players. Matt Behncke, for example, would be a top choice if everything were equal. But the rumors out of Dallas are that he's going to law school, so that's that. Rusty Pierce being out of contract is another thing to factor in, as is the status of most of DC's vets on the unprotected list. It could work out completely differently and I could look like an idiot, but, well, that's happened before and will probably happen again, too. So I'm not worried.
FWIW, here are the rosters after the draft: Chivas: F: Scott, Martins M: Vaca, Pareja, Lagos, Gomez, Torres D: De la Torre, Perez I would expect Pareja to retire or force a trade to the Cows, while Vaca and Scott would be traded/released. RSL: F: Walker M: DiGi, Buete D: Roner, Hendrickson, Llamosa, Whitfield, Broome, Franchino, Akwari GK: Wells I see now that I may've gone a little too defense-heavy for RSL, but I doubt it. IMHO they'll try to get as much experience on defense as they can from this draft so that they can concentrate on the attacking side of the field with their SI's and allocations.
Man, you get the Nancy Reagan Memorial Jean Dixon Astrology award for figuring all of that out. I'd love to get Franchino off the Revs so that we see him less, and speaking of goalies if we have to lose Walker, I would rather go into 2005 with Ring & Wells than Thornton & Wells. But anyway, solid job.
3rd Degree is reporting that RSL has acquired Kreis for the standard "future considerations", which makes your one forward drafted seem more likely.
I might be reading this incorrectly, but I think there are only 10 rounds. http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20041117&content_id=19264&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Towards the bottom of the text.
