Yeah, MLS wants fair market value for McBride and Everton wants to stiff them. Of course, that's the way early negotiations go. MLS is asking for a 1.7M transfer fee, Everton wants to pay no higher than 700K. If both sides really want it, they will come together in the middle with around 1.3M which is what Moyes offered for him in Preston.

sounds like both sides posturing for future negotiations to me.

From the last article I read, McBride didn't seem so enthused about staying in England.

    Maybe he's posturing too...

1.7M in sterling is less than what MLS wanted last year. If I recall, Everton sort of was keen on making a bid, but MLS said waiting until after J/K, where eventually his price tripled.

Why, what happened? Tell us all about it (or point me to a thread in which you've already told all about it).

A scupper is an opening in a wall (or parapet, I think) through which water can drain from a "flat" roof into a gutter.

The word the thread starter ws looking for is scuttle. As in the ship was scuttled.

Hey, "MLS to scupper toffees McBride move" is the title of the article. I didn't think of the word.

As stated in an earlier post, a scupper is a hole through which water can drain. The reference is usually to them on a ships deck, which lets water wash overboard. Another creeping Britishism.

Or as in the ship was scuppered: to scupper (slang) to sink a ship or its screw; to kill a plan.

Also a drain on a boat, esp. a sailboat. I think a better term would be 'scuttle' -- as in MLS refusing Everton's offer. But that would imply refusing and closing the door -- deep-sixing all offers. That's not the case.

Evidently MLS simply rejected an initial, trial offer.

So....If McBride returns from loan, does the Crew have to dump some salary? If so who? We need some offense in SJ and you guys are lookin a bit top heavy with Buddle, Washington, West, Cunningham and McBride. Any ideas on who's making what $$$? I imagine Buddle and Cunningham are untouchable, McBride would be a salary problem himself......that leaves West and Washington.....either of whom is better than our Ching or Mullan. It would be nice to keep DeRosario in SJ as a sub.

I don't think it matters whether or not McBride is on loan or not. His salary is still on the Crew books.

You'll have to find some other team to help you out with your crap team ;)

So loan doesn't relieve salary? Then how does the Crew roster a lineup like that?....I'm sure Buddle is underpaid until his contract is up but I figured West, Cunningham and Washington were pulling down decent salaries, not to mention McBride and now Hejduk.

PS-My crap team is gonna get a big Discovery player and beat up your crap team. ;)

I thought it involved punching them in the back of the neck until they crapped?

Man oh man.....just because I post in the Quake forum and my ID ends with "boy" doesn't make me the neck-puncher. Although I admire some of his work, i'm am not affiliated with the neck-punching poster known as Richter Boy. I'm the guy that has no problem slinging Gaysmack.....usually in Rivalry......from where I was voted out. :D I'm just here trying to figure out where the next Graziani/Ekelund level of player is gonna come from to help our weakened side :(
