I've been impressed with Rolfe's skillful touch since the first day he was in the league. He had a fantastic goal.

I'm really annoyed that two of the most irrelevant clubs in the league (NE and KC) are in the final four. MLS needs to rethink this whole playoff format. Half the cities have ************ attendance for the playoffs anyway. Just have a conference final and a final. Make it like baseball used to be.

    You forgot Chivas's irrelevancy...

Chicago/Houston would really be the best final matchup. Blanco is a terrible diver but when he's standing he can play. Plus he might help draw a bigger, more enthusiastic crowd.

I don't mind so many teams making the final but I'm not sold on the format. Nothing new from me but I think the top 6 (single table....eek!) make it... seeds 1 and 2 get a bye the first round.

Or keep 8 teams in it and create 2 groups of 4. Each team plays the other teams in its group once. Top 2 seeds in each group get 2 home games, bottom 2 seeds get 1 home game. Top 2 from each group advances into the knockout stage.

My plan would only extend the playoffs by one week. Instead of 2 first round games (home and away) there would be 3 (the group stage).

Twellman (I was OUTRAGED when he was not selected for the last WC)'s bicycle -- I can remember when American refs would have whistled that for a "Dangerous Play"!
And I can't remember much beyond last year.

Rev up the engines for DC!!!

Well, yet another drab, boring, defensive, and un-imaginative MLS Cup Final on our hands with NE being there again. We'll be there for it.

Yeh, but you had to love all those empty, blue, tarp-covered seats!
In defense, it was a 30-degree school nite. And did you see those bare-chested wonkers?!?

That's just an excuse from American fans. Have you ever seen the Bundesliga matches played in blizzards, and the stands are still filled?!?! That's the type of support I dream of in the USA.

If KC make it to the final, it will be depressing in terms of fans support for the Cup. But at least they play with a bit of attacking flair, unlike NE. It will probably be Houston back in the final, anyway. They have some good supporters groups and I hope they travel.

Only Calcio had a reaction to the playoff system I mentioned but I did a mock up of it to show how it would work (for those of you who are really bored). I've seen mention of this system elsewhere on BS so I can't claim credit but I think it would make the first round better than the current home and away. Since it would last a week longer than current the season would have to end a week earlier or MLS Cup would be Thanksgiving weekend (as shown below)

Single table, top 8 make the playoffs. Odd seeds go in group 1, even in group 2. Seeds 1 and 2 in each group get two home playoff games with seed 1 getting their away game against seed 4.

Top 2 in points from each group advance. Tie breakers are Goal Differential, Goals For, then whatever....haven't thought that far. Using GD and GF as tie breakers should help promote more offense minded soccer.

    Group A

    DC United
    Houston
    Dallas
    Chicago

    Group B

    Chivas USA
    New England
    NYRB
    Kansas City

Week 1 (Oct 27) Home teams listed first
    DC v Dallas
    Houston v Chicago
    Chivas v NYRB
    New England v Kansas City

    Week 2 (Nov 3)
    Chicago v DC
    Houston v Dallas
    Kansas City v Chivas
    New England v NYRB

    Week 3 (Nov 10)
    DC v Houston
    Dallas v Chicago
    Chivas v New England
    NYRB v Kansas City

    Week 4 (Nov 18)
    Group A1 v Group B2
    Group B1 v Group A2

    Week 5 (Nov 25)
    MLS Cup

    Certainly have!!
    Dream on.
When it snows (rains, windies, etc), American fans STAY HOME (eg - American football games, except for GB).

I really hope Houston wins. I don't want to see KC twice in one year. Of course if KC makes it their supporters row will be a wild place. Goooooooo T-Bones!
