No... it's called offering up a team name suggestion for a Phoenix, Arizona-based Major League Soccer franchise.

Granted, the Maricopa Mundial FC suggestion was meant as a joke. Hence, the :p .

I like Phoenix rising with the whole bird in the crest just not the same as D.C. pls....

I like Phoenix United if they could do that..or even Arizona United

Phoenix Miners....Might be to close to rattlesnakes or just not for the people with gutter minds but Phoenix copper heads

Apparently. It's at least as good as Phoenix Rising... which, quite frankly, sounds like the title of a low-budget sci-fi film or a video game.

No, no, no... bicoastal. Bipolar would indicate that I maintain homes on a piece of shifting Arctic Sea ice and at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. ;)

Do us all a favor... Go watch a low-budget sci fi film, play a video game, or argue with Andy Mead...

    MOD NOTE

Coming into another city's forum and having a go at a name that the interested fans have rallied around is trolling/flaming. This is your warning.

Then again, it could simply be - as it was in this case - an example of sharing one's opinion on the relative merits of a suggested team name for a potential Phoenix-based MLS expansion franchise. Nothing more, nothing less.

Further, I fail to see how the following statement...

... wouldn't be construed as "having a go at a name" that was offered-up by a fellow Major League Soccer fan who simply wanted to join in the fun of bandying about potential team identities.

Incidentally, I have something of a vested interest in a Major League Soccer franchise setting up shop in the Greater Phoenix area, as my soccer-mad aunt, uncle and cousins live in Scottsdale. So, in spite of my die-hard devotion to the New England Revolution, perhaps the denizens of the Phoenix expansion forum - as well as certain moderators - shouldn't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that my presence here is part of an effort to troll, flame or bait. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In exchange for my "warning", I'll offer up this sincere advice to you: As a moderator, you would be better served in your moderating efforts by doing a bit of research into the contributions of posters before too hastily designating their behavior as "trolling/flaming". Frankly, I believe that my post history speaks to the fact that I am anything but a "troll" in this community.

I recognize the role that robust rivalries play in sports - particularly soccer. That said, one would think that Major League Soccer fans in potential expansion markets would appreciate supporters of existing teams showing an interest in the efforts of cities such as Phoenix - or, Philadelphia for that matter - to secure an MLS club. After all, regardless of which team we root for, we all desire Major League Soccer to grow into a strong, vibrant entity. Hence, the reason that I offered up a Phoenix team name suggestion in the first place.

I did the research into Hoozdo when you posted it before which is why, despite normal forum posters thinking you were being a jerk, I stood by your right to post.

There are different ways to engage in dialogue and yours is confrontational, if it continues in this forum you will be infracted.

Went to the Curves of Steel exihibition at the Phoenix Art Museum - two blocks from my house - and one of the names of the cars struck me as a potential team name - Zyphers - Phoenix Zyphers FC - great potential retro logo too...

Brian in Boston may be a troll, but I don't like "Phoenix Rising" either --unless we get Viagra as a jersey sponsor. I've been dreaming of MLS in Phoenix since I moved here from Columbus 11 years ago -and I'll take any name including "Rising".

Phoenix Rising is just the name of the supporter's group. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of that for a Phoenix MLS team name.

I am sure something creative will be used when and if we land an expansion team!

What's wrong with Rocky Mountain Arsenal FC? Sounds classy to me. That would have been, hands down, the best named club in MLS. So I take it you prefer they keep the Colorado Rapids name, but change their crest to look more like it belongs on the Avalanche's uniforms? Big mountain peak doesn't equate well to Rapids.

Apologies for the thread hijacking. I'll add a little something that's more on topic.

I liked the Valley of the Sun FC idea, but how about the other name that valley goes by? Salt River Valley FC? It would be even more ironic if Real Salt Lake were to relocate there, since their Sandy SSS seems dead in the water (pun intended).

And what happens when Kroenke's stab at buying Arsenal fails and they cancel the "working" agreement with the Rapids? They would have been stuck with an Arsenal wantabe which with a little forsight isn't where MLS really wants to be...

Instead of the Salt River it could be Rio Salado FC...;)

Looks like you have some new brothers in name . . .

The NZ Knights had a change in ownership and a MLS-esque rebranding.

    Here's your new Wellington Phoenix.

No, no, no. You're missing my point. The Dick is located on the site of the old Rocky Mountain Arsenal. So that name would have had some meaning. And it sounds uber cool.

That would be lost on everyone else. The current "association" would brand them as wannabes if they change their name and colors...

First of all I have to say how great I think the whole quest is.

I must admit that as I am over here in the UK I am not particularly au fait with all the references to the area but I did think that maybe incorporating a familar name from a european team could really help boost support for the team overseas. I know it's not ideal as a club as you would wish to establish a unique identity but if you were to call the team 'Phoenix Celtic' 'Phoenix Rangers' or 'Sporting Phoenix' then maybe it could help as I am sure that fans from those teams would adopt you as their MLS team. Not sure how this has worked out for Real Salt Lake (i'm assuming they got their name from Madrid) Just an idea, please don't roast me for it!

(hey that's pretty good, how about the Phoenix Roasters...)

    Good luck with it all,

    Cheers!

    I think that sounds great too. I also thought of;

    Coronado FC
    Sport Clube Coronado
    SC Phoenix,
    SC Arizona
    Atletico Grand Canyon LOL
One person suggested Rio Salado FC that is actually a great idea too,
    Or Atletico Rio Salado
I think there are alot of great names out there. i just hope they don't give it some dum NFL/MLB/NBA style nickname like Dallas Burn LOL

If a city have a name so rich in allegory, mythology and even medieval symbolism it would be rather stupid not to use it...I think

I actually made a google search on Phoenix...and got more hits than Las Vegas gave me.
