I am not writing Vako off, either. He just needs to find some more understanding with the forwards. He beats people 1v1 which is a great skill to have, it unlocks defenses as everyone scrambles to the intruder. And he isn't super-greedy with his shots, but he can't seem to find anyone after he beats a guy. He often beats two guys, but then he has only one tempo to find that other runner, and I think as often as not it isn't his fault there is no runner. Sometimes we need a guy to say "I think Vako's going to beat that guy in stride, let me run to where I'd like to be if that happens"
He's been here for two and a half seasons, not counting 2020 and he's 27. Unless lightning strikes twice and he's another Wondo (not holding my breath), we've seen what he has to offer, and it's a player who only goes forward, rarely passes, and couldn't give a crap about trying to get back balls he loses. Whoever plays D behind him always looks terrible, because he's so fooking lazy. I'm writing him off...
Food in the MLS is Back bubble https://www.espn.com/soccer/major-l...5,000-meals-a-day-and-still-ordering-chipotle A good read if you have a few minutes. Our team is mentioned too.
Watching the pre-game show with Shep Messing, I didn’t recognize him at first. Turns out he is 2 years older than I am, but he looks 80 (instead of 70). Which goes to show that posing nude can take 10 years off your life.
So, I think we know who we want out of "3rd from A, C, or D". 3rd from C. DC and Montreal look terrible. Though NYCFC are not playing well, they can start at any minute. And one of SKC, Minnesota, and RSL is going to be a 3rd? That is the top two teams in the Western standings, and a team that has yet to lose a game this season.
This team knows how to party! .@werofierro bought the team a bingo game in Orlando. Take a wild guess who won... 😂😅 pic.twitter.com/FjqtqGJhKg— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) July 22, 2020
Based on what I see from the MLS site about how the 3rd place teams will be slotted, we are almost guaranteed to get D3. I don't see NYCFC holding onto that last spot, so any scenario with A3 would be out and all the rest of the scenarios left put us against D3.
I'm completely confused on how the wild card teams will be placed. I understand how they wild card teams are decided, but not which team they will face in the next round. Right now RSL is the top wild card team. Their group is assigned face the winner of group A or group B. If they stay the top team is RSL going against A (Orlando) or B (us)?
Thanks! That is the most convoluted thing they could have done. So pretty much it's like 95% we play D3, which looks like its going to be RSL, though if Col beats Minnesota by 2 or more goals, it could be them (if Col wins by 1 there is some tie breaking process that will need to happen).
https://www.mlssoccer.com/mls-is-back-tournament/standings I'm really glad to see the vile, evil, cheating, water-stealing galactowankers sucking up the smell! Go Quakes!! Go Quakesfans!! - Mark
I've been spending some time lurking on the Gals BS page just to wallow in some lovely schadenfreude!
Yeah. We have to play RSL or MNUFC. I would cheerfully play Minnesota for revenge... in a later round. Winning our group shouldn't get us R16 versus a top team, so MNUFC needs to take care of business versus the Rapids.
It seems like either of RSL or MINN would give us trouble. We’ll see how fit Quakes really are, because it seems like all the teams are running out of steam. Today’s and yesterday’s games have really declined in entertainment value
OTOH, Quakes have 7 days of rest until their next game on July-27, so that might be good. Or it might cause a flag in motivation. Hard to know in this crazy time.
I agree on both counts. It has been a few days since any decent soccer was played. Maybe we are just getting spoiled with the Quakes playing a fun style. I could only listen to Red Bulls radio for this last game, and man was that dead. The commentators were depressed.
though things could change, last I heard was it was looking like Salt Lake would be Quakes next opponent.
