For whatever reason, it's safe to say America has rejected MLS. Unless there is some giant unforeseen uptick in viewership, the MLS is Back tournament has probably damaged the league's position in TV negotiations rather than the bump they were hoping for. I'm more pessimistic about the future of the league right now than any time since the days of contraction.

So say you're in charge of one of the more successful teams in MLS. You decide that the best course of action is to do what the big clubs in England did in the nineties - enlist a breakaway group of the most successful teams, form a new league, and negotiate a better TV deal. And you might be able to do the whole expansion ponzi scam all over again.

Which MLS teams do you take with you and why?
