From what I've heard they were in the Timbers Army section (which as a visiting fan is a bad idea) and weren't exactly being civil. So they were removed before things got out of hand.

I have no idea why but the crowd was incredibly late arriving. You knew it was a full sellout because so many people were on the lawn early in the game but the stadium was sparse in the first 20 minutes.

By the second half it was packed. The 27k was legit.

A couple thousand more helped Chivas win at Red Bull Arena, they tried to recreate the atmosphere.

I don't get why people arrive so late to soccer games. It's not like they go on for days like a cricket test match or something. You arrive 20 minutes late and you only get to see like an hour of the game!

I was at the game and this statement is false. It was a huge crowd because it was NY and people expected Henry to be there beforehand (his absence wasn't announced until the day before the game), and it was the return of De Rosario who was a HUGE fan favorite in Houston. Marquez probably draws about 3,000 fans there to see him, the rest are Dynamo fans through and through.

Despite what people think, there are tons of non-latinos at Houston games.

I watched the game on TV and I remember Glen Davis saying it was because of Marquez, but when the cameras panned the stadium, it seemed everyone was wearing orange. Perhaps they went to see Marquez and Henry, but they seemed to be supporting the Dynamo.

When I was a kid growing up in Houston and the Astros played against Fernando Valenzuela (Mexican star) of the Dodgers the stadium was always packed. All of those fans were wearing Dodgers hats and cheering for the visitors. It's obvious that wasn't happening last night.

This happens a lot in the NBA. People come out to see stars like Kobe or Lebron but still root for the home team.

I was a section over, in 106, they were smack dab in 105. They were being directed to leave though TA chants, and the crowd around was quite hostile. This was 40mins before the game. I don't know when they were escorted, but it was NOT a good idea for them to be there. Noticed 2 other crew fans on the periphery of TA, they stayed.

I agree... i've been to a number of sports games in different leagues. To wear a visiting jersey in the home supporters section, even if you keep your mouth shut, IS STARTING something. You can sit anywhere you want in the stadium just not there. If you sit in the supporters section the unspoken rule is you support the home team, hence the name of the section.

ps. Just for reference i saw a Red Sox fan tossed out of a game for sitting in a Yankee's supporters section, and the Red Sox fan was being civil, but just being there is wrong.

It doesn't matter if they were sitting with God himself.

You don't wear colors into the Timbers Army. Period, no excuses.

We want to avoid all potential hazards. We treat visiting supporters like gold in the pubs pre and post game, and we even expressed that to the Crew supporters...but the North End TA are very passionate. What if Columbus had won the game, or gone up 2 or 3 goals? Yea...may have turned from a cherry scene to an ugly one.

We absolutely love visitors to our city, but please do not reside in our supporters section.

What is considered a sell out in Philadelphia? I have it at 18,500 is that right?

If opposing fans (who do not start anything) in your vicinity is a problem, as pathetic as that is, it's a problem with your supporter's section, not the visitors.

I realize I'm in the vast minority on this, but I honestly can barely tolerate most supporter's groups. I'm sure as individuals they're all fine and normal, but as groups they behave like a bunch of pretentious children. Kicking someone out of the game because they're wearing the wrong colors in your section? FFS grow up and get over yourselves.

This could easily be one of the worst post I've ever read here. Why would anyone sit in a home teams supporters section, other than to start something? The crowd doesn't need to grow up, the 2 or 3 visitors do. Sitting in the middle of the TA wearing colors is immature.

Why does someone wearing different colors matter? Aren't you supposed to be watching the game?

    worst. post. ever.

you don't know shit about shit.

Supporter's Groups have done a lot for MLS, thank your lucky stars they exist.

Seriously, worst ever. Go douse your hands in gasoline, and ya...fire.

Never again shall I read such rubbish, never.

    Okay, back on topic.

I grew up in the Swamp's student section, and scattered opposing fans were not uncommon. No one ever started anything. Hell, there's a small visitor's section hugging the sideline, with 20,000 students in 86 rows behind them, and nothing ever happens. The stories about piss bombs or whatever are made up either by opposing fans to make us look bad, or stupid Gator fans who think it makes us look hard or some ridiculous crap. It's all made up, just like most supporter's groups stories.

I've sat in Auburn's student section wearing Gator colors, and all I got was a few insults. I've been to hundreds of NFL games in various stadiums, and saw maybe a handful of incidents that directly related to there being an opposing fan near by (as opposed to the regular reason of drunken idiocy). I've sat amongst Mexico fans in US gear, and nothing happened.

Merely being present is never "starting something." If something happens because an opposing fan is present, the fault lies with the tribal moron who thought violence of some kind was an acceptable response to seeing the wrong colors. Kicking someone out of a stadium while holding a valid ticket because they wore the wrong colors damns the Timbers as an organization, and the TA by insinuating they're violent at the sight of opposing colors.

It is possible, TA guy, to both be an ardent member of a supporters group and not be a giant idiot toward someone in the opposing teams' jersey in your section. Being in a supporters club doesn't mean you have to pretend you're in Green Street Hooligans.

Enthusiastic passion and self control are not mutually exclusive.

ETA: Your point about Supporters Groups being valuable assets to the league is a cromulent one on its own, out of the context of this subject, but it should have no bearing on criticism of the behavior of said groups

As long and hard as the struggle has been to build this sport in this country, one would think that one would make every attempt to be cordial (as long as they are not provocative) to all your fellow fans regardless of their allegiance. We are all in this together people.

My question is, how is it possible that if seats are available albeit on stubhub or the street that there weren't more Galaxy fans there?

But all in all a great week for MLS and probably the most surprising was Houston. Any ideas as to why the huge numbers? They looked mammoth on TV.

    Mod??

Real surprised, my post where I point out that San Jose is showing week numbers got deleted by some overambitious mod, but this post isn't struck down right away....interesting.
