It appears that the bottom four teams from each conference will not qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. But an 18-team two conference playoff? How will that work? From the MLS website: At the end of the 2020 MLS Regular Season, the top 10 teams from the Eastern Conference and top eight teams from the Western Conference (18 Clubs total) will qualify for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. For a two conference playoff: Eight teams work neatly; all teams participate in the first round. Ten teams requires two preliminary matches. So I ask the brain-trust here at BigSoccer: what playoff format makes reasonable and sporting sense?
They will be having a play-in match in the Eastern conference that will get them to 8 teams in the first match... that’s already been announced.... if you’re asking about people’s preferred playoff format, head on over to the You be the Don forum. Lots of discussion there about playoff formats...

IM JUST tired of the standard one game playoff format, to short and sweet for a long MLS season, honestly liked the two leg playoff but others were not a fan of that format... They need to change the format, make it juicy...
