I don’t like this new schedule. It’s not even October yet and there’s no soccer on Saturday? What am I supposed to do today exactly?
Laundry, trim the hedges, watch some competitive bass fishing, eat too much, take a nap, contemplate singularity, practice various accents. view a humorous cat meme. I'll get you started:
Because the channels that would televise them have more popular things on. College football rules the TV landscape on Saturdays. Every network pretty much has a TV contract with a college conference to show football games. I wouldn't be surprised if even Lifetime was getting in on the action at this point. Fox will give MLS a 5 hour block of time to show MLS games. But it isn't going to be on a Saturday when they have college football games on for the afternoon/night.
Last two weeks of the season, the league puts all the games at the same kick time. Heightens the excitement I suppose. I'd rather watch more games.
Also, in theory, it allows for less gamesmanship as some teams know earlier results and how they factor into their goals for the game.
For this week, the main reason is that it allows them to pick the national TV games late, rather than being stuck with a dud national game that was scheduled before the season. For the final day, they again get to pick the national TV game late, and also it's the traditional thing to do in soccer leagues.
Something to think about: Dangerous farce of hellish Qatar World Championships leave athletes furious with IAAF https://t.co/rKpOn6w1XW pic.twitter.com/WiqDYfKn0M— Mirror Sport (@MirrorSport) September 29, 2019 Thx, Jay!
Qatar can't host events unless they are indoors. They are using television as an excuse for the start times, but some of these events are late night local time and I am pretty sure some events are starting midnight local time.
Yep. The marathons were delayed with one beginning a minute before midnight and many runners not completing it. Events inside the stadium have been ok with the air conditioners, but the stadium is empty even if you don't include the huge tarped off sections.
Better than for NYCFC ... https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/sacramento-mls-expansion-superthread.1997361/page-142#post-38183585
