    Miracle in the Misery

A MIRACLE baby and a tragic widow contrasted survival and despair in the the shattered city of New Orleans yesterday.

The unnamed tot amazed doctors by fighting back from the brink after being born 11 weeks early amid the howling fury of Hurricane Katrina.
    ...
But amid the despair, the tiny girl is being hailed as a beacon of hope.

She was born weighing little more than a pound in a hospital with no power or water and at the mercy of looters.

Yet despite the odds she would not give up on life — and has now been airlifted 90 miles to the safety of Baton Rouge by a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

Nurse Suzette Gremillion, 24, said: “She’s one hell of a fighter.”

The baby’s mother remains traumatised by her ordeal and asked for no family details to be released until the tot is sure to survive.
