I went to a Reading game this past March. If United were to use Madjeski as a model, I think folks would be happy. Regardless of where you sat, you felt like you were on top of the action. I've got some photos I'll try to upload later.
post some pictures bastards I'm busy good job Payne, that's what I wanna hear. Please don't visit Columbus HS or HDC for inspiration
Don't worry. I once heard KP refer to Columbus Crew Stadium as "nutrasweet," as in, a substitute for the real thing. He has been talking about our stadium having a "European" design flavor for years. Thank God we have him as the main person behind this project. When it comes to understanding what fans want, KP gets it. Btw, all three of the stadiums they are visiting are great. If those serve as the templates for the style (both exterior and interior), this is going to a great stadium.
From an architectural perspective I like Readings better. I think the stadium should have a pretty normal design rather than going for something new wave. Anyone have a picture of the new stadium in Germany that looks like a big tire?
ooo Reebok please Changed my mind, Bay Arena. (posted original thing before the pics of BayArena were posted)
That would be Allianz Stadium: For me, of the three I'd go for Bolton's look. Never been a fan of the plain jane parks in England.
Re: Minor stadium news, Payne and 'architects' to visit English and German stadiums.. All 3 have roofs! If the dc stadium got built I might wizz myself, but if it got built with roofs on all 4 sides...I might...I dunno. I'd be at a loss.
I personally would rank them as: 1) Bay 2) Reading 3) Bolton I am just not a fan of the roof on the Bolton stadium. I think the stadium should be a low key as possible given the surroundings. Best not to piss off the neighbors by building something they view as an eyesore.
True, not a huge fan of the Bolton roof either. That's why I lean towards a more design oriented structure rather than the warehouse look. Something that can be sold to the local residents as a beautification project for the neighborhood. Something they'll like to see out their windows on their morning commute.
I don't mind having a stage...as long as it's not a crew stadium kind of stage. It should retractable (or otherwise able to be camo'd). Having the stage is pretty much gonna be a requisite. And the revenue from concerts won't hurt.
What would be better to see on your early morning commute, than to look out of your window and gaze at the huge banner of this...
they don't ruin grass on stadiums without stages, why would it do it here? Are they going to have several times more even than at other places?
