Fair enough - you got that in ahead of my response to your post directly. I had thought Diao played against us out wide, but perhaps I was wrong. However, I think part of the problem is for more attacking options against us, you brought on..........Finnan. I'd think a better option than that would help.
But, you obviously know your team better. Perhaps I'm projecting - we haven't had a good right sided player since.................Sergio Conceicao. And that was for Lazio.

The biggest disappointment, to me anyway, is that Kewell never met his promise. If he had played just at his Leeds form I'd have been happy. I actually thought he would have shown us more at Anfield though, I still have hope for him to shake of the ankle problems and run at the defense once more.
We do need that striker who can play with Boros and or Cisse, (Owen and Baros had the same problem) or those two need to sort out 'who does what to whom' I saw that play Matt spoke of and I was just as pissed as Cisse, Baros had a snowballs chance at that shot and Cisse positioned himself perfectly....Aaagh!
FSP, so far he doesn't impress, He's a darker younger version of Baros, twist, turn, head down. He has, so far, a lousey first touch on the run and tends to stumble on the ball but he is improving.
We can't keep relying on our defense to win games for us and a couple of goals up front would certainly take some of the weight off them.
Yep, someone who can shoot and offset the right wing bias of our current pair.

I agree, if Kewell had played to his potential, I think even last year would've turned out better for us, with more points, maybe not in standings. And with better form for the whole team, Kewell is a very good player but he just needs to go back to his days of old. It seems like he tries too hard nowadays, just play.

No, it doesn't suck. This is exactly what he wanted; to move to a higher profile club and be in the first team and score goals for them. No reason to be bitter about it, just congratulate him and say 'thank you' for not going to another club in the prem. But I guess in a way, yes it does suck that he wasn't in this good form for us last year.

Naw, Good for Mikey, findinfd a bit of form. It remains to be seen if he's a stop start scorer as Matt has suggested, just look at it this way Mikey represents Liverpool if he's on form and scores then good players come from Liverpool and we get the respect.

Easy on the personal insults there, chief. While I don't agree that we should hope he fails at Real, it's a pretty human reaction to have after how the transfer to them went down.

After all hes done for the club
why would you anyone who supports the club want to see him fail?
did they expect him to spend his whole career frustrated knowing he can go to a club which will actually have a chance at winning their respective league and compete in Europe.

I'm going to assume you don't know the complete circumstances surrounding his departure. It wasn't simply a matter of wanting to move on and "hey LFC, no hard feelings". He didn't do right by us when it came to this move and everyone knows that. Now, that shouldn't translate to wanting to see him fail, but I can't blame someone for getting a small bit of personal satisfaction when he was struggling at first.

even if he said "******** liverpool..im moving on" you should still be grateful for what he has done while he was there

    *sigh*

    I'll explain it again...

Two years ago, we told Owen that his contract expires in two seasons and we wanted him to either sign a new one, or talk to him about selling him for his current market value (I reckon we'd have recieved at least 20M pounds at that time). Nothing out of the ordinary for a big time club, since no club wants their highest profile player pulling a Bosman on you.

He him-hawed around...first saying he was thinking about it, then saying he wanted to stay. Then he woudn't sign. Then his agent says other teams wanted him. Still, he insisted he wanted to stay, despite NOT signing a new contract. All the while, he's in a big time slump and his value is going down. We sack Houllier and, in a virtually unheard of move, allow him to help select the new manager...that's how much respect we gave him. Because he told the club he wanted to stay, we didn't sell him. We trusted him that he was telling us the truth and that he DID want to stay and that he WOULD sign a new contract.

Meanwhile, he goes to Euro 2004, stinks up the place...value much much lower than it was when this whole incident first started. Then, one week before the season starts, he decides he wants to leave and we get 8 million pounds and two players we had never heard of.

He did NOT treat us the way we were treating him. Period. End of discussion.

So, yes...we appreciate what he did while he was here. But how he left is a whole 'nother story.

Yes, I do...as he twisted the end of his long moustache and tied up a girl to a railroad track.

No, of course I don't think he WANTED to screw us out of money. But he wasn't a stand up guy about the situation.

He could have handled the situation much better than he did. If he really cared about Liverpool he wouldn't have let his contract situation get so desperate when he knew he desired a move away from the club. He waited until the last possible moment until the club had no choice but to sell him for whatever they could get.

It also doesn't help that he is making comments about how he would love to see Steven Gerrard join him at Madrid. That one really ticked me off. Owen should know better than anyone that comments like that just add to speculation. If he cared about Liverpool he wouldn't wish that their captain would leave us like he did.

Sure, Owen was a great player for Liverpool, but there are plenty of reasons for us fans to bitter (especially after seeing Pongolle as Mellor as our only available strikers as we were shutout at Anfield). So forgive me for not getting excited by Owen's sucess at Madrid. I don't wish that he does poorly, but I can't be bothered to root for him either.

I agree. I am happy that he has moved on and is doing well for himself but to make comments about Stevie ringing him and asking what the weather is like in Madrid and asking what the team is like, and then suggesting that he would like to see Stevie G. join Real is a bit of a stab in hte back for Liverpool supporters. sure he is entitled to his opinion but he shouldnt add to the simmering bonfire about Stevie's transfer as it aint good for the club

did i make a false statement
if you think Liverpool has a chance of even making 3rd this season you have got another thing coming
being realistic there is a huge gulf in class and i dont think the power will change in the EPL for at least another 5 or so years
