If anything I think he should be called up before Duvan or Muriel but Borja seems to be blackballed too.
Crazy to me that all three have not been called up at all this cycle.

Borja has passed Teo in number of goals for River and is now going for Falcao’s spot!

Borja got injured in his last match.
Early reports are that he will be out for the rest of the month.

I guess he recovered a few days quicker than expected.

It is now being reported that he will be available for the Boca match tomorrow.

Hit the post too that was so close to going in.

Also Portilla had a golazo in that match for Talleres.

    Scored a brace last night.

Could have had a couple more but hey, he may still not be 100% after his injury so I will let it slide.

The guy is scoring goals and he is playing well in Argentina where Lorenzo obviously has a personal connection. Leading scorer on one of the most successful teams in South American history.

It will be very, very telling to me if Lorenzo does not call him.
He may just not like him personally/ not get along with him.
Or it can be a situation where he does not like his style defensively/ pressuring without the ball.

Other than that I cannot think of any logical reason why he should not be called up this month.

Or he just doesn't want to bring back any more of the old guard than he already has. We have a team now that is gradually bringing in newer players while phasing out the old ones. Move forward, not backward.

Or--and this is a VERY logical--he doesn't fit the high-pressing tactic that has come to define Lorenzo's team.

If Lorenzo omits Borja, I fully support it.

We need guys who score though so being left off for being old guard is not really that logical to me if he is scoring and others who are newer or phasing in are not scoring or not playing.

The high-press is what I was alluding to with his defense and agree with that if that is the case.

Old guard is active is James, Falcao, Cuadrado, Ospina….. maybe Quintero, Uribe or Barrios.

no one else really featured enough to be considered that

Uribe I pray isn’t in the list

It doesn't seem logical to me to bring back the guys who were leading the offensive line during the last qualifiers, in one of the worst offensive stretches the NT has ever had. That goes for Borja, Muriel, and Duvan. Tired of each of them. I don't care in any way what they do for their clubs. They've each been in stellar form for their clubs several times in the past, and it rarely carried over to the NT.

It's possible that they are not to blame for the past scoring woes. But, it's inarguably true that the NT is scoring far more these days without them. And, frankly, outside of the high press, Jhon Arias is really the only new guy in the attack. Seems to me we're doing FAR better without those guys.

Falcao hasn't been called in a year. Didn't get called to a single qualifier. Caudrado played the first 45 minutes of the first qualifier, and he hasn't played since. And he won't be called anytime soon due to injury. It's very possible both of these guys are done.

Quintero was called in for the first round of qualifers, and left off of the next two. And he was in GREAT form for Racing at the time.

Barrios has been relegated to the bench. Lerma and Castano are clearly ahead of him, and Rios might be too.

Lorenzo is weeding all these guys out. James is earning his keep. Uribe will be on the list, but I think he's the next one to start getting minutes reduced.

Borja scored many key goals for us last cycle until he was injured After that he was not the same which was unfortunate.

I can understand why you and others may be tired of seeing those 9s but what happened last cycle happened last cycle. At this moment we have no 9s that are scoring or that are in form or that are healthy enough to go a full 90.
I would not mind seeing Duvan or Borja on this roster.

we scored last cycle? I remember going like 8-10 games without a goal. No one up top was effective

Most of those games Borja was either injured or it was after his injury.
We also had some bad luck with injuries and COVID when it came to Muriel and Zapata.
But as I said , last cycle was last cycle. You cannot judge player on what happened two to four years ago. We have to evaluate fairly in the moment. And at this moment I think Borja should be called.
