Total cost for the two players is roughly: Mikey: $6.5m a year for 6 years: $38m* Defoe: $6.18m a year for 4 years: $24.72m* Transfer fees: $20m combined ** Total outlay: ~$82m * assumes the first year salary reported by the players union is the same number each year for length of contract ** transfer fees were not officially released but most reports put them around $10m each.
If Mike Brad should go anywhere, it's someplace where he will be a key player; he should accept nothing less. His ceiling as a key player is probably right around the level of Benfica, which is not bad at all. If it comes his way in earnest, he should take it.
Fun idea but makes little sense to me. But then I thought there was no way in hell TFC would shell out nearly enough money to tempt Bradley away from Roma, so what do I know?
Do we really think Benfica would pay what is likely a buyout clause over $15 million for a 27-year old? That just doesn't match their MO in my eyes. I think that's why people are dismissing this.
This doesn't make any sense. Bradley is being paid a huge salary at Toronto. Not only would Benfica have to fork over a significant amount of money in the form of a transfer fee, they'd also have to offer Bradley a raise on his current $6.5m/yr wages. I just can't see that happening.
I don't know, I think he'd really benefit from a couple of seasons in France and then make the jump to the Bundesliga.
Benfica is a huge club. Not sure how anyone could deny that. Garay and Enzo Perez play(ed) for Benfica and they just started in a WC final. Having said that move makes almost no sense.
Record is among the more reputable papers in all of Europe when it comes to these things. And remember, it just said they were interested in him. Lots of players have lots of interest that never goes anywhere.
Ask and receive. A big drop off after the big 3, all of which are lower than the MLS average and a few of which would be envious of Chivas USA crowds. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/aveprt.htm
There's no way Rio Ave averages 2,300 people per game. I remember watching streams of them and seeing literally 100 people in the stands regularly.
Running the math on the overall league outside Benfica, Sporting, and Porto - the average is 4,420. If you were also to remove any games that feature those three teams, I would imagine it would drop a lot further.
Do the Portuguese people even have enough cash to attend many games there? Only like 10 million people in the entire country and I can bet 50% of them live in the 2/3 largest cities.
He just moved his family across the world. He's in a team that relies on him. He's not moving anytime soon as much as the Yanks Abroad section misses his beautiful bald head.
Subtracting their home matches against Porto (3,896), Sporting (4,995), and Benfica (6,023), their average drops to 1,673. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rio-ave-fc/spielplan/verein/2425/saison_id/2013
You weren't kidding there, according to that chart Chivas does better attendance-wise than about 60% of the Premeira Liga, and for sure if you remove the games against the big teams then the average drops even lower than that. Anyways, as for this rumor I'm pretty sure that if Bradley moves, it'll be back to a Top 4 league just like how he came.
