Miami FC Begins Another Week of Work with Postive Attitude - 05/17/2006

May 17, 2006, Miami, FL- Miami FC won 2 games this weekend in the USL First Division which boosted the team to 3rd place in the league standings. The South Florida squad resumed practice on Tuesday in preparation for their next match. On Sunday, May 21, at 4:00 PM, Miami FC will face the Virginia Beach Mariners at Tropical Park Stadium. Coach Chiquinho de Assis worked with all of his players at practice including Romario, who scored two goals in Friday’s win over the Portland Timbers and was named the USL Player of the Week.

This past Sunday Miami FC beat the Portland Timbers (Me: It was Atlanta) 1-0 with a last minute goal by Colombian Oscar Gil. Commenting on 2 wins in less than 48 hours Gil stated, “We are very happy at this moment. We needed to win a couple of games to elevate our self-esteem. We hope these victories draw a bigger crowd for next Sunday’s match.” Both Gil and Romario were named to the USL First Division Team of the Week.

Guatemalan forward Mario Rodriguez is now on the injured list after Friday’s match. Dr. Jan Pieter Hommen of the Orthopaedic Institute at Mercy Hospital, who was at Friday’s game, assessed Rodriguez’s injury shortly after it occurred and catalogued it as a grade one hamstring pull, which usually requires 2 weeks recovery time.
