MetroStars will start their U.S. Open Cup journey on the road at the winner of Rochester Raging Rhinos v Virginia Beach Mariners (July 13, 7:30 ET). Game will be Wednesday, August 3, at 7:30 ET. Results/Schedule here.
Even with 6 or 7 of our best XI, we should be ok for that game, right? Hypothetical Open Cup lineup: Meola Leitch-Mendes-Regan-Ward (if healthy) Lisi-Bradley Magee-Gaven Ibrahim-SGR This lineup may not win the MLS Cup, but to advance a round in the Open Cup, I like our chances.
The Metros B team couldn't even beat the Rhinos B team, what makes you think that six or seven of the best eleven will beat a full strength Rhino's A team?
Then we'll wait and see. All that we will lack is some veteran leadership in midfield. Plus we'll have Guevara, Djorkaeff and Razov as first subs off the bench if we fall behind. Can the Rhinos speak of the same depth in attack, if things don't go well in the game? Still like our chances and if motivated properly by Coach Bradley, we can get a result. And that's all they need, a result.
We should try using a new defender in our lineup. Do we still have the young Brazillian defender or did we dump him with Diallo . I know Brazillians aren't known for their defending skill but he may be good in starting up attacks.
If Metro comes to Rochester, I will be there to cheer on the Metros. It's a short drive to Rochester from where I live.
Thank god someone else had the guts to point that out! See also: my post under metros vs rochester in game[R}. I still can't believe more people weren't as upset as I was about a fu<king draw against an A-league team. No offense to any Rhinos fans, but MLS is SUPPOSED to be the 1st division of American soccer and thus the teams in it are (at least in my eyes) expected to play top class soccer. It's just really frustrating when the team you love doesn't seem to take things as serious as you do...
It was a reserve squad game. Come now. You weren't expecting us to field Gaven et all for a mid-week friendly? The Rhinos have proven themselves a resilient squad for USL too. Hence, their Lamar Hunt US Open title from a few years back.
I was upset too, and I agree, it should have been a Metro win. It's like a varsity team beating a JV team. There's no room for that.
Either I'm going to stay in Richmond and drive to Virginia Beach with a buddy or two, or maybe take the Amtrak up to Rochester.
I agree these games are a big deal and if it was me I would go out to win. If you don't you could lose. The goal is to win the whole thing.
Actually I wish that we would've had the winner of the Ocean City Barons/Richmond Kickers match. If Ocean City would have won, then I would have headed down to South Jersey. Ocean City isn't to far away from Atlantic City. That would actually be the ultimate road trip for us supporters. Rent a room in one of the Casinos on the boardwalk, drive down Atlantic Ave to the stadium and after the match, a little black Jack or poker.
Its official everyone......Metro at Rochester for the next round of the USOC. Since I'm officially living in Syracuse now.....I'm there, no doubt. If i can drive five hours through a rain storm for the opening match (probably the stupidest thing i've done in a long time)...i sure as hell can drive an hour west to Frontier Field. Anyone else coming and need directions or help with accomidations, let me know. The unfortunate part is, the game is on Aug. 4th which is a Thursday.
As long as Amado only plays the first half in the all-star game on July 30th and quickly gets on the plane to Rochester, NY and meet up with the rest of the squad everything will be just fine and the boys can great a great result against the Rhinos.
