What a drop off. The numbers indicate he's a situational starter for a bad team in the Cypriot league. I really like Danny so this is very sad. He's only 30!

I would usually disagree regarding the age issue, because being 30 is very old in some leagues, and can get you benched ... but Cyprus have an "old men" league, so it should have been a perfect fit for him :

Can't watch him, but the numbers indicate he must have earned the bench, since each game he had fewer and fewer minutes until he finally disappeared.

I'm guessing MLS could offer him a higher salary than Cyprus at this point. Maybe he thought Cyprus would help him move back to another European league, or he wasn't ready to move to the US yet when he signed with them.

Maybe his Cypriot club just doesn't like him, but the fact that he couldn't lock down a starting spot for the 10th placed team (out of 12 in the league) would seem to indicate that his play has dropped badly. I would think that he might have to trial with some MLS clubs for them to determine if he's worth whatever his agent is asking (which is probably way more than any MLS club will pay for him), plus he'd probably come with a transfer fee since he's only 4 months into whatever contract he's got.

I can understand why MLS want as many US players as possible, also considering that MLS keep expanding with more clubs, but why keep throwing DP money at American players who have past their prime in Europe ?. If he is not able to make it in Cyprus which is the "old men league" of Europe just behind Turkey, why would he be worth a higher wage and DP spot in MLS ?.

I doubt very much he's getting a DP spot in MLS.

Does anyone know what his salary is in Cyprus? @Ceres, for what it's worth I'd think that a club in MLS might be willing to pay him $250-300k, if his game hasn't dropped off a cliff.

Transfer fee? Very doubtful. He was a free-agent free signing (who joined after the transfer window closed IIRC) who's not working out at a bottom-feeder and is now being shopped around after only 4 months. He's almost guaranteed to be available for free.

Shopping-around doesn't usually happen unless things are really bad on some personal level (bust-up with the coach, bad attitude in the dressing-room, etc), so there's also the possibility that his wages would be part-subsidized by the Cypriots.

The average earner in the Cyprus league (2018, last I could find) is on €60k a year. If he's on a salary around €250k, and not earning time, there are crazy lockerroom issues around him right now. That's a huge wage for Cyprus. I'm not saying he isn't on that, but that is star money there. For comparison, MLS was right around €450k (and with TAM/GAM etc that number is gonna also be much closer to the mean than the average in the early years of DPs).

Played 90 on the 25th, on the bench for a 3-0 win on the 1st.

Living a nice semi-retirement life in Cyprus as far as I'm concerned.

That might be true, but I'm not sure how you draw that conclusion from him being in London given that he can't sign anywhere until the transfer window opens.

I mean theoretically he can sign wherever he wants at any point in time. He just can’t register to play until the window opens.

The only people who thought he was very good and got mad at coaches for not calling him for the NT were in these forums.
