'00 striker and new Germany U-17 callup Maurice Malone is German-American according to DFB's official site: http://datencenter.dfb.de/profil/362349?historize_title=U 17-Nationalmannschaft&historize_url=http://www.dfb.de/u-17-junioren/team-und-trainer/?no_cache=1 He's been a subject of our YA Detective Work Thread: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads...ive-work-thread.1987805/page-18#post-34773912 And has been on OWTY's '00 prospect list for some time: http://owhentheyanks.com/2000-2/ Transfermarkt: http://www.transfermarkt.com/maurice-malone/profil/spieler/405568 He plays for Augsburg U-17 and is currently tied for the U-17 Bundesliga South/Southwest lead in goals with 17. Here are two of his goals this season, the second one an impressive left-footed strike (sequences starting at 0:41 and 8:57): New USMNT Chief Scout Thomas Rongen's Twitter account (@TRongen) has since vanished, but Malone was one of the first prospects Rongen mentioned in his feed upon receiving the job, so the USSF is presumably aware of him.
Most everyone knows about Timothy Tillman, and deservedly so, but Malone is also clearly one of the top dual-nationals to keep in mind. '00 Maurice Malone scored in his debut for Germany U17s against England U17s #usynt pic.twitter.com/I61GcyBBbW— Joey (@USAprospects) February 13, 2017
Starts and scores vs. Bayern. Bayern's recap says it was a 20-meter strike. https://fcbayern.com/de/news/spielb...-fcb-u17-fca-u17-180317?shortURL=U17FCA180317 Die Aufstellungen für das Spiel der #FCBU17 gegen den FC Augsburg. #packmas #FCBjuniorteam pic.twitter.com/okMFxjNSh9— FC Bayern Campus (@fcbayerncampus) March 18, 2017
Malone has scored in three consecutive matches vs. Bayern, Kickers Offenbach, and 1860 Munich. 20 goals on the season so far.
Malone was a sub in Germany's UEFA U17 win over B&H, provisionally cap-tying him to Germany. http://www.uefa.com/under17/season=...710/match=2022589/postmatch/report/index.html
In 5 Germany matches, Malone had 1 start, 2 sub appearances, and stayed put on the bench twice. Recorded two assists. A player good enough to make Germany's youth squad for a major competitive tournament and contribute decently, not good enough (at this point) to be a consistent starter for them -- early indications of hitting the sweet spot for a future US switch.
A few press reports on the recent UEFA tournament referred to Malone as American-born, which I would guess is incorrect but not impossible. Anyone know for certain?
Maurice Malone has been 'Bumped" up to the Augsburg U19 - playing in Junior Bundesliga Sud/Sudwest (from U17) Transfermarkt has him as a dual Ger/USA and has his age as 16 ???
Played in a friendly today (2nd half) as Augsburg beat Kaiserslautern - I'm guess back to the U19 when the season begins
http://www.stadtzeitung.de/augsburg...r-u17-weltmeisterschaft-nominiert-d31287.html He's on Germany's preliminary 33-man roster for the U17 World Cup. Final roster to be announced any day now.
He's on the final World Cup squad, a laudable achievement, and I would argue a good sign for the US. Still a long, long way to go to the DFB senior team. Why is it a good sign for US? Where is the logic? He was born in germany n develop there. What does it have to do with US?
Develop your own talents in America. Stop aiming at others When Germany paid billions of dollars in their development and training Why do US have to rely on dual-nationalities players only? Do something about it. Why cant u develop your own talents?
So you follow German football and haven't noticed that American guy who plays for Borussia Dortmund? Or what about the other one who started for Schalke the other day against Bayern Munich?
Thats part of football. There are no rules mandating you must spend all your football development years in a certain country. Until FIFA changes the rules, why shouldn't we try to put the best team on the field that we can? And also, we are only talking about a few players here. I don't think more than 5 guys who fit in the category you are talking about have a chance to make our World Cup team (Johnson, Brooks, Chandler, Williams, Saief), and I doubt all five will make it, so we'll probably send a roster with like 2 or 3 of those guys. Is that really such a big deal? Two or three developed elsewhere? A lot of teams do that. Even a country like Spain has Diego Costa who was developed in Brazil. I was reading in the Germany section that Malone is struggling, so why do you care so much? If he's not that good, is it such a big deal? There's a need to pick a fight over a guy who's a marginal player for Germany's U-17's? Nearly all our players are developed in the USA, so what if a few players tracked by our fans are developed elsewhere?
I understand your point, but he has been born with the ability to chose either Germany or the United States. I've talked with him and he's clearly in favor of playing for Germany at this moment. If he decides he would rather play for the US no one can fault him
Maurice came off the bench at 59' and Scored Augsburg U19 2nd Goal in a 2 - 2 draw at Bayern U19 in A-Junior Bundesliga (Süd/Südwest)
