I think all most of us wanted was to win and to get to the next round. A multi-goal win was clearly not needed. So, you were technically wrong, but wrong. (you don't have to admit it.) Goal differential probably won't help us if we lose to Portugal. If we draw against Portugal, they are already handicapped with -4. We don't need to rack up GD, we need a point and then keep it close against Der Mannschaft. EDIT: Ed beat me to it. BTW, I don't see Ghana getting embarrassed against either team. Let's see what happens.
If we lose to Portugal we are tied on points, you can dismiss that as a lost cause but the fact is...it isn't. But I will agree with you that we wont rack up a GD, because that opportunity has passed us by now. Unless Portugal fall apart for us too...and then GD wont matter.
I am a fan and a realist. Anyone is fooling themselves if they felt the American lads performed well v. Ghana. Bradley was terrible as well as numerous others. We had some solid performances from Zusi and Deuce.
Since when? To me, being a fan doesn't mean you can't be realistic about your team's chances. Heck some of the biggest fans I know are down right pessimistic about their team's chances. How else do you explain how there are still Cubs fans?
I already made my point clear and I stick by it. Ghana going down like the dogs they are is good enough for me. Everything else now is gravy.
Aduesque is correct. We didn't play very well overall despite the two well placed goals. IF you look at all those chances that dropped in our box we were lucky they didn't have their finishing boots on that day. We could have realistically conceded 3 goals if they had actually been able to finish. That Gyan header for one, the Gyan chance that required a last minute block, and several other chances. We didn't create enough chances. Darke is right, it was a smash and grab. What is cool is that this is soccer, and you can win ugly and get away with it at the world cup. Play that team 10 times, and I'd say we'd be on the losing end.
All I know is that I was having a truly horrible day until we played Ghana. It's amazing what a well placed corner and a perfect header can do for one's health.
