Looks like the ref missed that one, and he was looking right at it.

We should start a pool. I say 55th minute is the first time we'll see the stretcher.

[result]Slight tangent: Refs have indeed been excellent, but who else thinks the Mexican was too harsh with Cahill's dismissal against Germany?[/result]

That was a near-perfect counter by Denmark. Even so, I think Holland had plenty of time to fill the open space on their left flank.

It was harsh, but I've seen worse decisions. He did go thought he back of him, even if he was trying to pull out of the tackle.

The Orange have the possession and Denmark has the two best chances so far.

Don't get me started. I've just finished ten pages arguing the affirmative in the Refereeing forum.

It was. If anything you should reward his restraint by not sending him off. He didn't extend his legs and tried to pull out of the ill fated tackle. If he was feeling the least bit malicious he could have really been violent with that attempt.

Not that it means much but apparently Schweinsteiger said after the match it shouldn't have been a red card.

He "missed" the ball by about 10 yards. I put missed in quotes because he had zero intent for the ball. That's why he got a red card.

ETA: I do agree it was a harsh, but I think it was orangish, and I have zero problems with that kind of thuggery getting stamped out of the game.

Danish defense really playing well, individually at least. Great one on one plays by Poulson and Agger

Van Persie needed to take one less touch and either shoot or lay it off. Holland is more dominating on possession but Denmark is far less tentative with their chances.

Agger is truly a bad ass when he's on form.

That shot missed the net by quite a bit, but it was a direct hit on a few thousand dollars worth of camera equipment.

I hate myself for agreeing with John Harkes, but yes, De Jong cannot do that repeatedly. Deserved yellow.

I think he's not completely criminal, but he did need to be cautioned.

43' 0-0 #9 Robin Van Persie receives ball at box top wide right, carries in to 15m -- challenged by #4 Daniel Agger, does 2-3 cutbacks, and finally shoots low and just wide right, past the side netting and into the ground cameras. Denmark's defense flexes, but hasn't broken yet.

as a US fan and a watcher of refs I just don't get it - that exact tackle from De Jong is what took Stu Holden out of action - De Jong is a thug and the refs let him do it again and again ....

    Holden
    Bendtner

who is next and when will somebody's career be completely ended by him?

    Halftime.

Neither side can be happy with 0-0.
