The flag was in the way. I looked at the replay again, a split second before the flag was in the way there does appear to be some contact, but it the fall was exaggerated, and it is not entirely clear if it was inside the box or not, maybe it was by 1-2 inches. Regardless, I am interested how on earth the ref from where he was decided to not even take that to VAR? This is the same ref that did not give messi a yellow for a clear intentional hand ball, and also let Argentina get away with other dives by rewarding free kicks for them. Let's see how much extra time he gives, anything under 8 minutes would be biased given the other games in this tournament. https://streamff.com/v/ufWhgMl4yT
I've always thought the VAR team look at all such incidents and will tell the ref whether or not its worth looking at himself. The fact that he didn't look at the VAR replay indicates they looked at it and quickly concluded the refs call was obviously the correct call.
I'm accepting that "my" team will probably lose. But the ref was poor. Giving all 50:50 calls to Argentina. It's pretty obvious.
Argentina was good in 2014 and could have won the world cup. But I don't see them do much in 2022 or in this game. Netherlands disappointed today too though. But Argentina just dived and did small team mentality in 2nd half today. This Argentina will no way win the cup.
