Makkelie and his crew wearing the UEFA respect captain's armband like Brych yesterday. Definitely a directive from UEFA.

If that's not a backpass at the professional level, then you can't have one.

Makkelie doing everything he can to not get involved in this game. You could argue he had opportunities to issue three cautions in the first two minutes of the game.

    Yeah that's a backpass.

Also calling that in the 3rd minute of the Euro semis would be something and the players only complained for a couple seconds. But yeah that's a clear offense IMO.

Yes, that was a backpass. Calling that in this minute of this game would have made Makkelie That Guy. You know, That Guy who called the backpass in the third minute of a Euro semifinal. I have been That Guy. Nobody likes That Guy. Makkelie is too smart to let himself be That Guy.

At what minute? I'd like to go back. (The play I thought might be a BP looked like the defender didn't actually touch the ball, but we may be talking about different plays. EDIT: definitely different plays as I noticed the time stamp on the post.)

Don’t fool yourself… Just running around in the middle of a soccer match with a whistle makes you That Guy.

Mount not getting a caution at 28' is where I start to have real problems.

I get management and setting a high bar on tackles or SPA. But all tournament reckless arms like that are cards. Heck, all season reckless elbows have been yellows like that. It's a black and white UEFA edict. And then, right there, Mount puts an elbow/forearm to the head like that and... nothing?

And then what happened on the free kick that led to the goal? You don't see that everyday. Or ever.

That's one way to finally score on England.

And my suggestion on that free kick is that, if the call is on Shaw, it occurred before the ball was in play. So it should have been a card on Shaw, if you want to punish it, and then a retake of the initial free kick.

Tackle on Kane has to be a caution.

Also, no space in the goal scoring wall with the Danes shifting last second.

I think that was what McGuire was complaining about, but it look they were ahead and off to the side of the wall (IMO)

    Easy check confirmed there. 1-1.

    Also, OG with goal #11.

Yeah they shuffled laterally and then one player broke toward goal as it was kicked. When you factor in the fact that the English wall also moved forward on the kick, it looks like a violation when it probably wasn’t. At the very least, it’s dubious enough they you aren’t canceling out a beautiful free kick like that.

But whether the free kick should be awarded in the first place is an open question. Even the way Makkelie first awarded it, I don’t think he was sure.

Got to get to the point of the kick, though. The wall does shift laterally and then one of the Danes breaks toward goal just before or as it was kicked. It was close. But too dubious to call in that situation, particularly as the English wall also was breaking (which invites the philosophical question of how to handle the 1 yard requirement when the defense helps to close the gap).

Did we hear from him yesterday? I don't think there's been anything today where they would normally bring him in.

It was neither reckless or tactical. it was created by amazing awareness by Kane.
The defender was definitely trying to play the ball. Kane just moved it.
