    That.

When SK scored, Uruguay looked the more dangerous. Even though SK was pushing, Uruguay were still able to take it and turn the match. They should never have stopped pushing.

is that keeper the one who replaced woon jae in a game against iran 2 or 3 years ago. he made a silly mistake in the last minute when korea was comfortably leading 1-0 at home.

btw woon jae is not that good anymore

Huh? Nothing that I saw came close. Maybe a yellow or two, but nothing red worthy. For either side.

Why did he suck?? He couldn't see the handball there were two players blocking his view. He called the game pretty conservatively, I suppose. He could have given Ururguay a half dozen yellows if he wanted to, I suppose. But he didn't miss anything particularly bad.

IMO the ref. called a EVEN game for BOTH teams. He let the players play the game. The game was fun to watch! :)

well he missed at least two penalties. he missed some obvious fouls u got to consider that every free kick might be a goal opportunity and as u said uruguay could have finish the game with 10 players. that's a lot in my opinion

Uruguay is playing the cleanest football I've ever seen from them. I don't know why so many are saying that the ref went easy on them.

He was referring to the offsides on Luis Suarez and the handball on Pereira's shot. Uruguay didn't deserve any reds. Perez deserved a yellow though

What you say is true but take into account that maybe after the handball happened, he realized his mistake and was sort of trying to "make up for it" by not calling a penalty on the other end. I'd rather someone be consistently wrong to both sides than show favor to one side. The offsides call is out of the referees hands, other than that the only obvious foul I saw was a body check on the Uruguayan side where he hip checked the Korean off the ball and he let them play. Then again he did it for the other side too.

What I'm trying to say was, even though he was bad, he was consistently bad against both sides and it makes for a fair match at least.

exactly. if anything the calls all went for korea, including a blatant penalty

a blown penalty changes the game a lot more than a possible yellow or two

some people just dont want to see the south american teams succeed

I'm surprised people are calling Uruguay hacks. Something must be wrong with their TVs, which are apparently broadcasting the team from 8-10 years ago, and not the current version.

Darn fine match. The first two goals are about as close to blooper-reel material as you expect to see in the elimination rounds, but the winner was high quality, just as it should be.

It was NOT a blatant penalty. The ball played the hand. Great no call. It's not the refs job to score goals, or play defense. He called a great game. There were some late tackles that were fouls, but none of that cynical stuff you see from some games.

Uruguay will be a tough team for either Ghana or the USA. Forlan and Suarez are dangerous, and their defense is tight. Keeper looks a bit wobbly. Korea's keeper had no chance on Suarez' 2nd, and his defense deserted him on the 1st.

Uruguay has a team that can contend for the title, but they need to learn to put the games away when they can. I give credit to Korea because they went all out, but Uruguay backed down a bit in the second half and it hurt them. They were saved by a moment of brilliance from Suarez, but they almost payed for their lack of a killer instinct when they had the game under control.

I'd rather they keep the cards in check unless someone does anything dangerous and intentional or obviously tries to hurt a player, and blatant handballs.

I'm tired of seeing great matches dictated by a fall of the cards and turn into a joke.

Congrats to Uruguay. The match-winning goal was superb. They won fair and square. No question about that. I have nothing but wish best of luck against either USA or Ghana.

it's there history, it is what it is as much i hate to say that.

they've had some ridiculously brutal matches versus chile and argentina in the past, not to mention there debacle with italy a few cups back.

they aren't necessarily DIRTY, but they certainly are physical, in your face, 100% commited combative team. nothing wrong with that, but you have to accept, that when you play like that, you play on the border line edge of yellow/red card offences.

True. Just as they get extra respect due to their past, they also get judged more harshly for the same reason.

Ki Sung-Yong getting tripped up in the box was just as much a penalty as his handball. Both were borderline calls, and it evened out regardless. The only thing disagreeable to me about the ref in this game was that he gave all the cards to Korea, including a really harsh one to Cha, when some fouls by Uruguay, particularly one by Perez, definitely could have been bookings as well. But overall, I thought the officiating was okay, and I can't really complain much.

That one midfielder was a total hack, but Forlan and Suarez are a delight to watch.

Uruguay played disciplined and tough, but I really thought they were too deep in the second half (like many other posters on this thread). Uruguay deserved to win, but that first goal was really soft. Even taking that one away Uruguay should have had 3 goals and Korea probably 2.

    I really enjoyed this game.
