Seems like AR2 has had a couple misses on offside. Will be interesting if there’s a tight goal or no goal on that end.

Did he really miss that one at 45+2?

I am worried I'm going to get infected with VARitis and never raise a flag again

I'm going to assume he got that one right, barring evidence showing he didn't. But there were two early--one clearly offside--where the flag never went up after play got recycled.

Karasev has been pretty good. I like his foul recognition. He did miss one clear yellow at 41' and then seemed shaky for the next minute. But that appeared like the only blip in an otherwise good half.

They gave a goal kick. At my level it's common just to give the GK and just give the AR a thumbs up but it seems in this tournament the delayed flag has been going up and called by the ref even when the shot goes over for a GK. When every decision you make is getting judged by assessors...

Didn't see the wide but it felt like DOGSO live.

Oh shoot. De Ligt handling. The real question was if that was an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, I’m actually ok with a yellow card in real time, and VaR suggest red.

this match heating up. SPA - YC immediately following play resuming for Cze. Let me get my popcorn.

This match can have huge implications for UEFA with the officiating calculus.

Kinda looked like they might have checked that for red.

I think my only real question is if there was a foul before the handball that resulted in a red. de Ligt was already slipping, but he certainly had help once he started to fall. I suppose the reacion of de Ligt and the lack of protest indicates that's not something anyone expected.

Yeah. The substitution got delayed and it showed Karasev with his finger on the ear talking. Could have been to the 4th on the sub, but it felt like they were completing a check before allowing the sub. I don't think it was red, but it was probably checkable.

The crowding, though mostly polite, of the referee is increasing exponentially. If another major VAR decision occurs in this match, it might not be pretty. Karasev seemed to be indicating to the Duth during the last check that he had to listen, which some players still don't seem to recognize or understand.

I missed the hold up. They showed the NED manager so I thought it was some type of ask or hold up because of behavior.
NED did sub next stoppage so maybe that’s what the hold up was for

The Dutch are the own worst enemies here. Undisciplined.

Are you talking about just the red card or overall? Because if you mean overall, the Dutch have committed a total of four fouls this match.

Not to underrate Denmark or the Czechs, but the GER/ENG winner has a very clear path to the final.

What I've noticed with regards to major decisions is that, in some way, VAR is increasing the crowding of referees.

It seems the crowding of the referees is much longer than before.

It was really obvious in the Portugal vs. France match.

Before players would dissent and complain about a penalty kick or move on. No matter how much they complained they knew the referee wasn't going to change the decision. So they complained a bit and moved on or it didn't at all.

Now, they know they have the VAR as a get out of jail card, so to speak. So there is an actual incentive to complain so they can pressure the VAR and referee to go to the monitor to change his decision.

They're essentially now complaining as long as the check is taking place.

Would it have been possible for that to happen on VAR? Hypothetical:

De Ligt never handles, Schick picks up the ball and scores. I think VAR would check to see if Schick pushed de Ligt to win possession, and could potentially say it was a foul leading to the goal and call it back.

However, once the ref has awarded a yellow on de Ligt for the intentional handling, I don't know if VAR even has jurisdiction to call a foul on Schick - wouldn't they only be allowed to say red card / no red card at that point? I don't think they would have had the right to reverse the yellow, only the right to upgrade to red for DOGSO, or let the call stand.

Bad result for the Dutch. Great result for Kuipers.

I think it's his Final now.
