MLS seems to be making up these little nuances on the fly. They might call it innovation, I think it is a pretty transparent method to keeping costs down. Good for the owners and the league, not so good for the paying public.

Publishing the allocation order players is actually a pretty big upgrade from before. Previously we'd assume that he entered a weighted lottery but would sometimes be suprised and find out he was subject to the allocation order because he was called up but uncapped or sometimes would randomly pop up in the waiver draft.

Pelosi just hasn't been the same since that nasty leg break. I'm not even sure he gets meaningful MLS minutes but he's probably worth taking a flyer on.

While breaking your leg and being out for a year is obviously bad for your career I'm not sure we can really know this. He wasn't close to making his LFC debut when he got injured despite comments on here. He may just have not been good enough.

While it's true he might not have been good enough in the long run even without the injury, the injury definitely derailed him. He was out a lot longer than a year too, closer to 2 years.

No he wasnt, or provide some evidence for this statement.
    http://liverpoolfc.wikia.com/wiki/Marc_Pelosi

Says he was out for about 14-15 months here.

I'm not dumping on the kid, he only turned 21 a few days ago and failing to make the grade at LFC doesn't mean he can't have a great career elsewhere, but this idea that the broken leg completely derailed his career is simply (based on available evidence) not true.

Perhaps he is recalling that Pelosi was on the Europa League roster in early 2013. There was some hope at the time for a token non-league appearance.

For clarification's sake, what's closer to a first-team appearance: Kind of close to a first-team appearance, or close to a first-team appearance?

It's hard to say Pelosi's career has been "derailed" when he's 21 and healthy -- at least, that term to me suggests the trip is over. Maybe, but it seems hard to tell right now.

It's certainly possible, and perhaps even likely, he'll never be the player he might have been.

But Ben Olsen made a World Cup roster after missing almost two years due to an injury that completely changed the kind of game he could play.

The article had some details on Marc Pelosi's situation, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Wondolowski named to U.S. roster for Gold Cup [June 23, 2015]
    http://www.mercurynews.com/earthquakes/ci_28368686/wondolowski-named-u-s-roster-gold-cup

    The excerpt:

Marc Pelosi, who recently was released by Liverpool after four years, is training with the Quakes, but coach Dominic Kinnear gave no indication of whether the team is interested in signing him. The Sunnyvale midfielder, 20, hopes to be part of the U.S. team that participates in Olympic qualification in the fall.

Charlie Davies came back from worse. He's not the player he was, but he's, what 80%? There's real hope for Pelosi.

Remember Aaron Ramsey's leg break a few years ago? It took him a full 3 years to get back to the player he was, and now he is indispensable for Arsenal. Pelosi just needs more time, and most importantly, more games. He can still be the promising player he was before IMHO.
