He's the goalie and they got a shutout. When the team gets a shutout, the goalie gets MOM. Granted it is team defense that gets the shutout and the goalie gets the credit. But as the father of two goalies, that's how it should be. Because when they lose by one goal its always the goalies fault, whether it is or not. Of course a shutout against the Daisies isn't that big a deal, not a very exclusive club.
OK, show of hands: Who wants Big Dave back? The guy got a rap for guiding the Burn to a .500 record every year, but right now, that seems pretty damn palettable. And oh yeah, I heard a rumor once that the Burn actually won a few playoff games when he was in charge. I'll confess that when he was fired, I was not terribly disappointed. And to be honest, he had some obvious defects as a coach. But you know what? I have a hard time believing that we upgraded that position in 2001.
Whilst I tend to agree that the 'keeper should be MOM if he keeps a clean sheet, did Garlick have to make a good save tonight? the only tough moment I remember for him is when EJ pressed him on the pass back early in the game.
Dave, a big yes. Anyone else hear the radio show Thur. The most interesting thing that Brian had to say was the comparison between Dir and Jefferies on who starts. Dir would tell everyone who would start at the end of the final practice before the game. No explainations. Jefferies explains to players why they aren't starting. Jefferies coddles, Dir gets results. Give us back BIG DAVE!!!!!!!!
OoOoOoO oOoOoOo RIGHT HERE! MEEE!!!!! Can you imagine, Dir in charge, turns the team around for 2004, finally takes us all the way in spite of the critics, ok I won't go that far but the thought of him coaching again brings a smile to my face and will probably do the same for the Burn players.
No, not Dave Dir. Jeffries may suck, but bringing back Dir is not the answer. We need a Yallop/Bradley type coach. I know, easier said than done.
Besides Dave DSir - who exactly is out there and available. A Yallop assistant? A Schmid assistant? No way in hell HSG swoops in and makes a Bob Bradley type move.
Actually, Yallop and Shmidt's assistants would be good moves. I think Kinnear played in MLS and Perez would appeal to the Hispanic market.
Kinnear sounds intriguing. He's a recent player, plus he has plenty of experience playing in MLS, just like Yallop.
