Cardinals looked like the 2006 Tigers last night. World Series Tigers, that is, the ones whose play prompted references to the Bad News Bears on ESPN and newspapers nationwide, not the great Jim Leyland team that ruled the regular season.

Good call on Rivera. If I were him, given that company, I'd be worried about a Congressional subpoena.

Another fluke win for the Cardinals. The Red Sox keep throwing (literally) games away.

 

Bizarre ending to game 3. Middlebrooks' lower legs with a life of their own in that situation.

 

Yeah, pretty much. DH rule is mickey-mouse.

Anyway, the focus is on the trip/interference when the heat should be directed at the Red Sox catcher for even throwing to 3rd base in the first place. Even a perfect throw and catch wouldn't have gotten the runner. You have the world's best relief pitcher on the mound about to face a weak hitter. The Red Sox were pretty much out of that jam before the catcher literally threw the game away.

And then there's the matter of Workman hitting in the Bosox half of the inning-- his first professional, not just his first MLB appearance.

 

Completely legit call last night. Umps got it right.

The ball should have never been thrown to third in the first place.

 

Let's also give the Cards credit for some shitty base running on that play, too.

 

Even better ending than last night

 

Did the pinch runner just get picked off with 2 outs in 9th and Cards' best hitter at the plate? He was not even close to being safe. Amazing stupidity.

 

Take away Red Sox errors in games 2 & 3 and this could have been a sweep. Just sayin'

 

Don't forget that the 10th guy would also have to re-adjust his batting glove after his nut-scratch.

 

That's a better description of football though. The quarterback would massage the center's nuts while everyone else gropes and fondles each other.

 

Sweep was never in the cards (no pun intended). Very even teams and series.

But Red Sox just took a huge advantage before the 7th inning patriotic wankfest intermission. Might have left Wainwright in too long. It was pretty clear that he had lost some stuff.
