O que fazer? Qual a solução?

    Gremio x Corinthians - 20.663
    Bahia x Vasco - 17.908
    Náutico x Botafogo - 12.357
    Palmeiras x Atl Mineiro - 7.268
    SPFC x Santos - 6.327
    Figueirense x Ponte Preta - 5.922
    Flamengo x Curitiba - 4.066
    Fluminense x Inter - 3.767
    Portuguesa x Atl Goianiense - 1.407

didnt find the public for Cruzeiro x Sport Recife, but it happened in Varginha, so it possibly wasnt a good public.

    average: 8.853

You are right. Those numbers are pathetic, but usually attendance increases over time.

Im curious as to the reasons why it is so pathetic. Does anyone have any answers or guesses? I can't help but compare it to the U.S. who has 4 major sports but still packs the stadiums.

It was mad cold in Sao Paulo but yea those attendances are pretty horrendous considering the product thats out on the field. Look at this board though I feel like only 4 or 5 of us watch brasilerao then like 20 come and discuss the selecao so I guess not much interest unfortunately.

A couple of factors to consider:
    • Violence - I know plenty of people who rather watch on TV and not go to the stadium because of the fear of what could happen there. Personally, it's not ideal, but I don't think it's bad enough not to go. Why are MLS numbers higher than Brazil? Families can go to the game with peace of mind while as families in Brazil worry about the possibilities of violence in the stadium and keep their families away.
    • "Season tickets"/socio program - A few well-structured teams have a good socio program where it works kind of like season tickets here in the States. You make a monthly payment and get dibs on tickets at a discounted price. Clubs such as Flamengo, do not have anything in place like this. Ticket prices have gone up over the years and no one wants to pay R$50 to see America Mineiro vs. Flamengo in Engenhao. The high ticket prices even detract people from going to see classicos.
    • Inflated ticket prices - See above.

is Tim Vickery right about the State Leagues being responsible for the low attendances at the beginning of the national league, while in Europe the fans pack stadiums when the leagues start?

come on. It NEVER gets mad cold in São Paulo, besides, it was even colder in Porto Alegre and the public at the Olimpico was 20 thousand.

Talk to anyone from there if its below 15 celsius its pretty cold for anyone from there plus add on rain. Not necessarily cold for me but I don't live in Sao Paulo just trying to prognosticate why Palmeiras vs Athletico didn't even get 8,000. I felt like the Paulista numbers were better.

Not entirely sure about that either. The classicos Flamengo played in during the Carioca didn't even break 30k. I don't think there was a decent showing for any of the games in the Carioca besides the finals.

Aren't some of the bigger and more better stadiums under renovation??? Which means they must use another stadium thats farther away or harder to get to which kind of effects the number of fans attending.. I know for one Engenhao is a terrible terrible stadium to attend.

I know its not their "home" stadium but the attendence was once again pitiful at the Engenhao. When you're not drawing more people than some Texas High School Football (american) games, there is a problem.
