Ah yes, the rebuttal of the truly desperate...finding a couple of anomalies to put up against a tidal wave from the other side.
What was he famous for? I'd never heard of him. Didn't he own a securities firm? Yeah, he's right up there with Madonna and Muhammad Ali. Seriously, go back, say, to 1998, and I'll bet as many people could identify Dave Corzine as Jon Corzine...not by picture, but just give a few words about who he is.
what i don't get is that republicans hate it when hollywood celebrities come out and try to voice their political opinions (usually liberal ones). but as soon as they find a celebrity who leans right, they funking vote him/her into office. Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Arnold, the old Nebraska football coach, JC Watts, and now lynn swann. it's strange.
I seem to remember this rallying cry - John Glenn, what on EARTH have you done...... Other than one short space shot, the man did sh!t
There is no tidal wave dave. There are plenty of Democratic celebrities who run for office. Some have been mentioned below. If there are fewer of them in office at the moment, that may be because there are fewer Democrats in office period.
But there was an intermediate stage between "Viking" (Bear, actually) and "state Supreme Court justice."
In Argentina, Carlos 'Lole' Reutemann, the formula 1 driver, is probably the most prominent sports figure to enter politics succesfully. He became the governor of the province of Santa Fe in the 1990's, and is now a national Senator. He is a Peronist, (Member of the Partido Justicialista), like president Kirschner, but he was a strong ally of former president Menem, and by Argentine standards he is considered right-wing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Reutemann
Dude, who cares? It's Argentina. Although I do admit that the idea of someone who is considered right-wing "by Argentine standards" is pretty damned scary.
I care. Argentina is relevant to every topic imaginable, and we have invented all kinds of crap. I think I will change my name to 'Argentine Monitor'. Here as my first official act as A.M. I present a picture of Senator Reutemann with president Kirschner: Oh, and as far as right wing, I meant by Argentine economic standards. Reutemann is no fascist.
My father in law says that god created the first bottle of wine in Mendoza. Obviously all of you Argies think the same way.
