Ex Sockers FC star Mike Magee hits for four and the FIRE's Craig Capano adds the fifth for Uncle Sam in a 5-2 win over the Ukraine at the C.O.T.I.F XIX Torneig Internacional in L’Alcunia, Spain. The win advances the US to the tournament semifinals Wednesday evening against Uruguay. Ex FIRE Reserves CJ Klass & Mike Ambersley also played. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10235 http://www.efe.es/deportes/detalledisciplinas.asp?opcion=9&id=3757218
willydonc, Thanks for the post. That's great news for our local guys. In addition to Magee, Capano, Klaas and Ambersley (who I thinks is from St. Louis), we can't miss Ned Grabavoy from New Lenox and IU. That is a lot of homegrown top notch talent making a lot of noise at the National level. Plus we have Jonathan Spector and Mike Bradley training with residency program in Bradenton for the next U17 World Cup
The Yanks are in the finals, defeating Uruguay 3-1 despite playing the last half-hour a man down. An own goal by Uruguay started the scoring, then the sides exchanged first half penalties (Grabavoy for the US). After Devin Barclay was sent off for a second yellow, Eddie Johnson iced the match with a brilliant solo effort. The US plays the Brazil - Costa Rica winner played later. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=186802#post186802
Comments from Rongen from the US soccer web site. "C.J. Klaas is one of our best one-on-one defenders. He has great athleticism and is not only a good defender, but is also someone who can attack from that position." He is from Cherry Valley which is next to Rockford, plays his college ball at University of Washington.
