Personally, i thought Viera was complete dogshite when he came on. Shouldve given away a penalty, played that through ball to Torres where Cesar produced a great save and also made an atrocious challenge late in the game.
Hey, I never said he was any good. I just can't argue with the logic of bringing him on. Mancini's hands were a bit tied.
Did anyone else see/hear the relief from Kuyt and the crowd? I mean everyone was happy that we had scored to take the lead, but the fact that it was the much maligned Kuyt made it even that more special.
After the game, Kuyt approached Chivu about exchanging jerseys. Chivu pointed to Hyypia, as if saying "I'm getting that guy's jersey," and Dirk kinda gave an understanding shrug and walked away, a bit dejected. Ok, I guess you had to see it to find it funny.
Don't worry Dirk- I would've taken your jersey if I'd been on the field. I'm not Italian so I might have a pretty good chance of playing fo Inter.
I saw that too...did Hyypia and Chivu agree to this in the tunnel before the match? Because they probably wouldnt have time to have a chat during the match.
that boy has had a ************ first 2 thirds of the season if he can net 10 goals more by the end of the season, I may be prepared to give him another year at anfield
On the subject of soft yellow cards and cynical fouls, when Gerrard scored the second goal, Inter's covering defender gave Torres a nudge in the as he attacked Gerrard's ball; just enough to send him tumbling down. Sly sod.
It's what makes the football world go around innit... I was home alone and in a detached sort of clinical mood when I was watching. The tactical play and the individual battles got really enjoyable to watch. Inter were under the hammer right from the get go but were pretty composed for the most part. It was like when I played chess a lot. Thing didn't change much at all until sub time especially Pennant coming on then Inter finally slipped up, (We broke them down) twice. This match last season was the overpowering of Barca, Barca had the possession then but it was all in their half, once they came out they got into trouble. Inter couldn't get out. Pennant played a key part in that match also.
Indeed it does. I watched the Arsenal match last night and couldn't help but see similarities with how we played both on Saturday (with scant reward, of course) and, in parts, on Tuesday (with better returns). Arsenal were actually luckier than us in that AC Milan actually ventured forward at times leaving space to exploit. Pennant and Crouch changed the match, for sure; up to then, Inter had been content to break up play around the box confident there would be no Liverpool players to pick up any pieces. To be honest, I was surprised at just how little amibition Inter showed.
so, i got of work early to watch the game and i was enjoying it with the newest liverpool fan in town -- my two month old boy, liam... i finally got him asleep at about the time pennant came on... so, when kuyt put the first one home, i reflexively yelled, and woke him up crying... i finally got him to calm down and then stevie hit his, only for me to yell again and he started to cry again... i told him i was sorry, that i couldn't hep it, that he would understand one day soon... i guess i'll have to arrange nap time to not conflict with the second leg...
To all those NON believers of Kuyt and Rafa up yours . I hope you all have your foots in your mouths after tuesdays performance. We were brilliant against the best team in europe right now. We showed good old fashioned die hard footy and did it really well. Our passing was spot on and once again Masha getting a well deserved man of the match . It seems every week the man does it ...now 18 million doesn't seem so high now does it ? Im so happy after saturdays loss we brought ourselves back up and never let our heads fall down. Lucas played his heart out and you could tell he didn't want to come off the pitch. Congrats to our staff, players and fans!!!!!
Kuyt still has a bad touch, poor passing, and poor crossing, one massively important goal isn't going to change that. There were very few people on these boards that are true Liverpool fans that were bashing Rafa. Masch and Lucas add a good South American flair to our team, they make up for Aurelio.
I really like Lucas -- he played well and didn't put a touch wrong all night but, as MiniLB pointed out to me, it helps to be sitting in rocking chair with Mash behind you and The Captain in front.
Agreed, and I thought Lucas was our best player until he came off. However, Gerrard looks useless in these 3-man midfields. It's like he doesn't know what to do with himself - or where to go. I thought Kuyt had a good game by his standards [not Torres's standards]. And, after Lucas came off, I felt that he did an incredibly good job of breathing life into the attack w/ his hustle and determination. Oh, and his crossing isn't bad. His touch has been exposed lately, but his crossing and shooting isn't bad.
Kuijt over hits most of his crossfield balls. i don't think he has any finesse. he's a human dynamo, but he's not subtle.
By the way-- where all the tossers that show up to tell us all our problems when we lose?? Can't stand the taste of crow, I guess!
True. But, if I'm going to pick on crossing. I'm going to rail A LOT of people on the team BEFORE I rail Kuyt. Oh, and Kuyt had a nice little flighted ball into Hyypia[?] during the game.
