We've been pushing a lot more people into the box than usual. Kelly and Enrique are running forward at every opportunity. It'll be interesting to see if the goal changes that.

Hope not. 1 goal has never been enough with this group of players.

we played extremely well that half save for a few headless chicken moments.

should have had 2 goals at least - story of the season of course - but Howard came up huge.

Suarez is killing them, as are the fullback runs. Downing looked lively to start then faded out again.

Carroll - I'm not sure - doesn't seem poor - but hasn't done a ton good or bad.

Gerrard limped off at the end of the first half, rubbing his calf...but he's back out there for the second half. Phew.

50' - NICE!! Suarez with all the hard work and lets Gerrard whack the ball into the roof of the net! Suarez slalomed through 2 defenders and saw Gerrard coming in and moved and Gerrard slams it home.

    2-0

Carroll misses what was basically a sitter. At least put it on target!

    Suarez with great work again.

Kelly is doing a great job of getting into attacking positions. Possibly reckless but I imagine (or hope) that the coaches have been emphasizing more players getting into the box whenever the ball is on the opposite side of the pitch and when a cross is imminent.

Suarez has come alive, eh? Warms the cockles if the man breaking into position is Gerrard rather than, well, nobody? talkSh!te has gone onto mourning mode. Hogh rxpectations that we'd be drubbed outta town as the Moyes love-in went into over-drive.

Enrique is playing like a madman again, and not in a great way. He gets the ball ahead of the halfway line, gets by a defender with fancy footwork, then runs into the box and attempts a cross while a defender was hanging onto him.

Could have passed it to Downing and maintained possession but when he gets his mind set on something he rarely looks for teammates.

Henderson is doing a good job of helping in defense on the right side, which is giving Kelly freedom to move forward.

Everton setting up camp in our end now and it's all hands on deck as Enrique clears a weak Rodwell shot from going in.

subs were Jelavic, Drenthe, and someone else (Osman maybe).

Carroll tried and failed a Ronaldinho (where he flicks the ball over his head to turn the defender).

Why don't we just try to maintain possession instead of doing crazy things?

For all the good Kelly has done as an additional attacker, Everton are creating most of their chances from our right side of defense.

England's next great hope ought to have scored there.

PS Dalglish looks perplexed that you can substitute at this early stage and put all 3, too ;) Why doesn't Drenthe play more often? Causing problems aplenty.

We've had an ok (by our standards) period of harmless possession. Defenders and Spearing/Gerrard passing to each other.

Good enough to burn some clock.

Carroll just played a better "Hollywood pass" than Adam has all year. Hits Downing in stride, who one touches it to Suarez, who one touches it to Gerrard but it's in the air and Gerrard can't control. Good direct move though.

Carroll hasn't done much impressive but he is playing in a deeper role and getting involved with the build up/pressing/defending more than usual.
