Butt takes down Davis? on a break, should have been a red as he was clearly the last man, but it's a yellow. Lewis swings in a free kick, headed over.

martins has yet to do anything.

Oooh, Derby with another break, miller sends in a nice ball for howard, who is all alone and would have scored if the keeper hadn't actually gotten the pass first.

Huh, well, in that case. BennyF on. And he scores, 70 yard bicycle. Castle kick off, he steals and scores again, cheeky 40 yard backheel... More to come, surely.;)

BTW. 1-0. and 78 gone. Davies is looking at his bench, longingly. Sadly, he doesn't find Henry or Ronaldinho.
Bit of nice play by Derby, skin castle, and in the attack. They don't look like collapsing. Cheers, and Miller is offand benny is on.

Donovan isn't competing for his job because of the league in which he chooses to play, not because he has Zidane- or Henry-level talent.

Anyway, you could make a pretty good argument that Zidane didn't deserve to be an automatic starter for Real. In 2006 many of the team French team weren't automatic starters-- even some of the ones playing in France (e.g. Wiltord, 25 league starts/nine sub appearances, Govou, 23/11, and Malouda, 24/7 weren't even automatic starters).

Of the France 06 players in the big four-- Boumsong, Henry, Zidane, Saha, Silvestre, Makelele, Sagnol, Chimbonda, Trezeguet, Gallas, Viera, Thuram-- not all of those guys were automatic first XI picks either at the time.

edit: Oh I see you slipped in that "in practice every day..." well...that is true to an extent, but a few bad games in a row and they're on the bench.

There's no shame with challenging yourself and having to compete for a spot. I don't understand why American fans are often reluctant for our players to do that.

I would not put Feilhaber in goal, but that still leaves 10 good choices. It's your team, take your pick.

Edit: Miller, excellent choice, and much appreciated!

Benny F makes a play on the ball. Knocks it out of bounds. Zidane knocked balls out of bounds.

AAARRGGGHHH. Howard with an open header and somehow puts it wide, when in was easier. great break.

    Sorry - Mexican for lunch.

Maybe if I doubt Derby's chances every week, they'll stay up!
