I'm trying to plow through the French. What exactly is Le Sommer's criticism--that the team's playing style/tactics were wrong? Tks.

She was moaning that she did not understand why she was criticised. She said she was foIlowing the game plan etc. The lack of ownership from players who did not perform is ashtonishing. Except M'Bock who is courageous enough to admit she made a mistake against the USA.

We have now reached the point where Lyon fans now bring banners to the game to support the players against the coach.

Poor game last lack of idea or technical quality. We saw exactly the same problem we had at the World cup. One lucky goal thanks to Pano's mistake and one excellent goal by Cascarino. Really poor in possession throughout the game.

Bouhaddi; Torrent, M'Bock Renard, Karchaoui; Henrty, Geyoro, Thiney; Diani, Gauvin, Le Sommer

The Lyon players got what they wanted in the second half. Majri came on as a winger and Le Sommer went to number 10 instead of Thiney.

Perhaps they should think about changing the basic structure of their professional league, to try to match the parity within the league that the NWSL has. It might help the players be better competitors, which would make them better players.

Difficult task: it would involve a complete cultural change about how football and football leagues (men and women alike) are seen across the whole European continent. If you mean perfectly matching the structure of American team-sports' leagues I don't see it happening anytime soon and I don't think it would be received well by most European supporters. If you mean, instead, trying to implement some slight corrections that could make thinks better, maybe that's more feasible and measures like finacial fair play were aiming to this target, but their potential success in creating more parity is anyway questionable.

Yeah, I there would be some HR problems alongside the mentality side of things.
Forcing players to change teams would inevitably lead to a legal challenge due to the Freedom of Movement and work in Europe.

And even if it could be enforced it wouldn't work, unless you also forced them to cut pay it would just bankrupt the "lesser" team. The unequal distrubution of player isnn't the problem it is just a symptom, the unequal distrubution of is the problem.

part of the reason why the NWSL teams looks so strong from top to bottom is that it;s only 9 clubs. The French League is at least 5 teams strong, they really need to cut down from the current 12. Lyon & PSG could easily field a solid 2nd team, almost all the Bundesliga clubs have one(cept they only allowed to play in the 2nd division).

Squad list comes tomorrow for the next Euro qualifier.

I spoke to the coach on Sunday in Milan, interview will come out soon, it was a recap on the whole tournament from the French point of view. Let's say, it was interesting.

a few issues will be for the Deacon is who's going to captain the team now that Henry is injured & will she keep on starting Gauvin at the important, central stiker position even though Guavin's lost her starting spot over at Montpelier to the German girl, Lena Petermann(who's always been just a slightly above average fwd in my book)

4-0 friendly win against Iceland with a few new things in the starting 11

    Peyraud-Magnin in goal.
Dali got another chance at number 10 with Thiney sat on the bench, Dali was replaced by Majri in the number 10 position, a welcome news. As a result Karchaoui was made a starter at left-back despite her poor world-cup performances...
Henry was injured so Bilbault played in her place, Tounkara in the rotation instead of M'Bock Bathy at center-back.
There was a first cap for De Almeida at right-back which give us a question mark on Perisset who was not called up after her previous injury.

Goals by Le Sommer x2, Cascarino and Majri.

Le Sommer is two goals away from being the record goalscorer for France as she is closing in on Marinette Pichon. She has 79 goals so far.

    11 384 spectators in Nimes.

The TV right for the Euro 2021 have been sold for the French territories.
Canal + ( pay tv) and TF1 ( free to view) have won the rights. Those two channels covered the 2019 WWC at home.

Canal plus will show all the games while TF1 will show the 14 best ones, same process as during the world cup.

Rates went up to 13 Million Euros from 5 Million Euros in 2017 in Holland.

Kazakhstan away, our first Euro 2021 qualifier. The coach made a tactical switch going 4-4-2 instead of 4-3-3

Do I remember right that De Almeida was part of France U-20 NT at the U-20 World Cup a year ago? I wasn't overly impressed by her back then. Is it her first selection with Senior NT?

Third Cap for Elisa I think, she was Euro U-19 champion in 2016.

here's highlighs from this week's game featuring #1 Lyon vs #3 Montepelier. Even before the opening whistle , Renard shows her overwhelming presence in a game that seemed completely dominated by Lyon

looking at the lineups, any of the top 5NT's of the world would be proud to start the 3 subs that Lyon brings in, lol

Heck, probably an OL "B-team", only made of the club non-starters, would place well at the World Cup!

It's worth noting that meanwhile PSG drew an home match vs Guingamp, thus throwing away the 2 points advantage they had gained vs rivals of OL: back to square one. :coffee:

Already three players out of the squad due to injury:

Phillippe had many call-ups through the years as she was born in 91.
Fleury was part of the squad that reach the U-20 final in 2016.

Amandine Henry also announced she is out
