Does Bamford get some sort of punishment for feigning grave injury then being overly aggressive, or because he's English . . . ?
Match report stitched back up... FT LDS 0-1 ARS TOTL for another week! 10 games now... hmmm. And another match won by the absolute skin of our teeth. Dodged 2 deadly bullets actually. Felt like a cup semifinal. But no new injuries. Ramsdale my MOTM, with Saka close behind him. Onward with @And_ROOS... next stop Ashburton station to see off Ajax.
Did you know... Arsenal have a 100% win rate in games with a delayed kick off due to power issues since 2000.
gabriel tries to shield bamford with his body while ramsdale tries to waste time letting the ball run. bamford decides to go through gabriel for the ball. gabriel goes down (real easy) but is mad enough to flail his leg at bamford. gabriel made zero contact but the man on the grassy knoll got him with the second shot. assistant referee bought it (naturally) and gave gabriel a red (which i can accept) but also somehow a penalty (even though bamford was nowhere near 10 feet of the ball and would have to physically go through 2 human beings to get to it). we surround referee and he has a chat (over tea) with VAR before eventually going to video box. referee takes back penalty and switches red card to yellow.
i was wondering about this, too. dude acted like he got shot by a 50 cal from zero contact to try to draw a red. if that isn't "simulation", i'm not sure how in the hell you can justify any other one. i was about to say i really like bamford as a striker. especially one with mediocre physical tool. but fuck that noise.
getting away with garbage win(s) feels like the separation between acceptable-maybe 4th/5th place teams vs a top 4 team.
Poor game but we did the thing. There will be games like these but it's a wake up call not to be sloppy and complacent.
I don't think Gabriel did anything wrong. He was pushed over and he left his legs sticking out. IMO, he's entitled to do that as he was the victim of a foul. Yeah, he knew what he was doing, but it's not like he fell down and then had a kick out. It's like when a player is shoved over and they grab the ball, you don't then show a yellow for deliberate hand ball.
I hate this Leeds team. They’re dirty AF; of course their press is impossible to deal with when they get away with so much contact. Jesse Marsch is a muppet.
for an aggressive team that takes bites whenever possible, i swear they're made of paper mache. if we near them, they are just collapsing in a heap.
as soon as bamford came in, they were insanely threatening. same as when bielsa was there, a healthy bamford changes that team ridiculously. that second half was one way.
I like 'em. Marsch is a cartoon character, but if you watched his playing career it's no surprise his team plays the way they do and he acts the way he does. Hope they take a bite outta the rest of the big boys. Glad we escaped Elland Road with 3 points.
Ouch. The graphic that capsulizes the match for me is the animated running xG. It was tight until just after HT, then they (or Bamford) went nuts and we couldn't hang with them. Luckily goals trump xG as the most important stat in any given game. But we were very, very, very fortunate to have gotten 3pts today.
Compared to the way the game would have been called without VAR, from Leeds point of view, VAR giveth and VAR taketh away, unfortunately for them, they wasted the gift.
