of course, if any of our strikers stop playing total pants and live up to a fraction of their potential, we could get much better, as well.
That's where the new stadium comes in. And that's when pook goes on a murderous rampage with a 12 gauge, a bottle of Old Grandad and his game worn Jason Dozzell kit. Still, this works out perfectly for Levy. He gets to say that the club tried with the fake bids for Aguero and Rossi, and that in order not to be left behind by our rivals, we must have our new stadium.
Add to that list Charlie Adam. Also, on the bright side, we weren't the most desperate club in the window. See: Newcastle offering 12m for N'Zogbia.
Why am I not shocked that Spurs finished the night with nothing? Of course I'd rather not get any strikers than pay damn near 40 million for Andy Carroll. The madness at Liverpool continues.
Insane market. These are 2008 transfer numbers. The silver lining to this slagheap of a window is that we would've paid too much for whoever we got. Hell, Pav was probably worth £25 in this market. Shame we didn't sell him.
Wow what the hell is going on. Pool sigh Luis and Andy and we get nothing... Charlie Adams are you kidding me. Yet another midfielder. Seriously!?!?!? This doesn't look good for us.
Well since we didn't find a forward who can play as a single striker, we need to get back to 4-4-2 and do it NOW.
BTW is anyone else sick at how well 'pool made out? They sold a potentially damaged Torres to Chelsea, and got Carroll and the rabid Uruguayan for a mere net expenditure of £8M. Torres was worth that figure before his injury. Now? Hmmm...
Yup. I need to go backpacking or something that will keep me away from people when I hear we've sold him.
Well... getting two strikers of Suarez/Carroll quality with the proceeds from his £50M sale would go a long way.
Haha yeah, just a bit. If they aren't coming while we're in the CL, I find it highly unlikely that they will come in the EL. We'll have to find another Berbatov-type buy. Someone who's had some success in a foreign league, but hasn't exactly set the world on fire. Though it seems our scouting department took a month-long holiday in Spain.
I don't think we missed out because we're Spurs. I think Levy got priced out of the market. You're going to overpay in January anyways, but the Bent/Carroll/Torres dominos completely blew up fees. Levy and Harry probably made the calculated decision that buying a quality striker wouldn't guarantee a CL spot, given that Man City, Chelsea, and even Liverpool improved massively. Sucks, but probably the right move.
Talking about Berbatov, we are not linked to any players in the Bundesliga for a long time. I like Lucas Barrios and Stefan Kießling.
Alternatively, they made the wrong move, and successfully pulled an Everton. Levy and Harry probably did correctly make the calculated decision that buying a quality striker wouldn't guarantee a CL spot. However, that means they just blew the only two transfer windows in the foreseeable future where Spurs are a Champion's League club and could recruit a Champion's League quality forward. Now that that ship has sailed, there are a few avenues that are likely: We'll blow our load on a striker of lesser quality, we'll bust our wage structure to bring in a CL quality striker that won't make a difference, or we'll stick with what we've got and languish in the 5th-7th positions for perpetuity. Bad call by Levy and Redknapp. They had 3 months to make a difference and bring this club the marquee signing it needed and failed miserably. I don't know what our endgame is here, but it seems like Levy is, in fact, more interested in sorting out the Oly and getting the team sold than capitalizing on our success to propel the club forward.
