Seattle 2 tryouts coming to Las Vegas: http://blogs.seattletimes.com/soundersfc/2014/11/14/sounders-2-to-hold-open-tryouts-in-las-vegas/
With a group in LV being mentioned for a MLS expansion slot, it would probably be a good step for them to launch a USL Pro club. Even if they don't get one in the next round it would be a good way to not only build the base of a club, but also a base for your fan base.
There's been one in the works for a while. The plans have been more or less put on hold while this MLS stuff plays itself out.
So pretty much a minute or two after that letter from MLS eliminating Las Vegas from this round of expansion hit the interwebs the USL to LV talk started up again. There will possibly be something official by April, if not sooner. I didn't know if it was more appropriate to just continue this thread or start a new one so I played it safe.
I'm not sure how public they're ready to be just yet. But, if you can find who the organizers of the pre-season match last night at Cashman Field were you'll get a pretty good idea of the folks involved. As far as I know they've only been talking USL.
Maybe the group and the city can still work together on a reduced sized stadium with the ability to expand to MLS size. But I doubt it. I think for the city it was MLS or nothing. And they still had a lot of issue about funding it to work through. But it would be nice to see the group start in USL and go the Orlando route.
Not a ton new on the Las Vegas front; they're still getting their i's crossed and t's dotted. The group is looking to bringing more friendlies here, so it seems they were pleased enough with the last match at Cashman Field.
They're going through the paperwork process currently. I guess USL trying to get division 2 status created some extra hoops to jump through but nothing insurmountable. Don't know about an announcement timetable. DANNO49 gets a fair amount of decent info so the 3-4 months could be accurate.
The USL deal is over 90% done. And if they do everything they want to do the team will "be the envy of the USL". No specifics on what that means, though.
