I mean... that's a good signing in theory. That team should be able set him up and he's always been a good finisher. The question is why did he fall over a cliff last year? Was that a blip or, more likely, at 35 is he declining? Hopefully they used a lot of resources and it turns out he's declined past usefulness.
Interesting that BWP not only wasn't in the 18 he actually just had hernia surgery after they signed him. That tells me that the Diamadre injury must be pretty bad for them to sign a replacement who, himself, won't be ready for several weeks. LAFC were trash tonight. Should have lost by at least 4
I guess LAFC could be considered trash compared to Leon playing at home but I don't think any MLS team would have come out of that game looking good. Our current defense would have been absolutely shredded by those guys. Their winger Meneses and the captain Montes gave a master class on how to carve up teams in the final third. My overall take on LAFC after watching the entirety of the game was that they will once again dominate or at least be a top 3 club due to superior talent. But unless they improve their attacking scheme they will again struggle in the big games. On defense their main weaknesses were Segura at cb (talented overall but often loses track of opponents), Palacios at left back (too slow and outclassed by Leon) and Ginella who was meh at one of their DM positions. But the rest of the team is either very talented (Rossi, Blackmon), athletic (Blessing, Jakovic, Vermeer) or both (Rodriguez, Vela, Kaye). But, just like last season, their attack showed almost zero coordination and relied entirely on 1v1 play. For some reason Bob seems to have taught them surprisingly little. Rossi would take on his guy, then Rodriguez would and then Vela would do the same. But even when they got to the end line their teammates weren't there in support so these forays ended with a whimper. However against MLS defenders their 1v1 skills will be enough to win regular season games. LAFC also managed to find what looks like a steal in the form of 18yo RSL homegrown Bryce Duke (his porn name?) who they picked up for 50k allocation money. He makes his first professional appearance on the road game against a top of the table LigaMx team and holds his own. Very impressive. (I expected DTK to find these diamonds in the rough, dammit!) You can hate LAFC with a white hot passion but its a fact that their FO is doing a great job in the roster building department.
Oh, I don't think anybody will deny that their FO has done a great job across the board. They've successfully sold the club to the local market, built a strong team, created a marketable fan experience and on top of that, they're even doing the sneaky corporate stuff well... they're jacking up ticket prices and the fan base are pretty much thanking them for it! OTOH I hold both their fan base and our FO equally responsible for the Galaxy's fan base not being close to its potential.
Basically just coming in to revel in LAFC shitting the bed (again). Of course Leon is a good team, but LAFC also played terribly and Vela once again choked. Which is just fine by me. Let's hope Leon finishes the job in dramatic fashion so that the Banc can open 2020 with knockout loss. "Historic" season is slipping awaaaaay...
I usually agree with you 100% but have to take issue with a few things: 1) How can you say they have done a "great job" in the roster building department when they start fricken Jankovich at center back in the most important fixture in their history. This is a dude that 4 years ago played 1 match in the Japanese 2nd division before being cut and 3 years ago was screwing around with the Cosmos in the NASL. The entire defense of this team looks awful and it's not even due to injury issues its by design. They chose to take an unbalanced but talented 2019 team and make it even worse by investing in midfield and attack and letting Zimmerman and Beitasur walk. It's terrible roster construction and incredible cockiness. 2) Can't believe you thought that Duke was good. Honestly thought the kid was in over his head and lost just about every 50/50 duel he was involved in. Frankly I think that Bob is getting a little full of himself. This kid had no business being on the field in the clubs most important match in history. Neither did the indoor soccer guy that Bob signed from Ontario belong on the field. I went to bed last night thinking that maybe, just maybe, LAFC is actually not going to be a free spending team in pursuit of titles at all cost. It feels more like a team that is just trying to make money and sell players for profit and they'll prioritize that over winning. How else can you explain the Zimmerman sale? Here's a club that should have bolstered it's back line to make a real push for CCL glory but decided to throw in the towel. That's how I saw it anyway.
I thought Jankovich looked shaky a couple times but mostly he played fine. I dont know what was behind the Zimmerman move though - many were puzzled by it. To be fair we did make Zimmerman look slow in our games against them last season.
Traffic is brutal here in Downtown Los Angeles. About 15 minutes to kick, tons of folks still trying to get into building. #LAFCvsLEÓN pic.twitter.com/kZBi5UQ9Fy— Maximiliano Bretos (@MaxBretosSports) February 28, 2020
LAFeces beat Leon 3-0 at home. Two Vela goals. Him asking for a card for a dive is rich. They're in the quarterfinals.
Leon played a mixed squad and did not show up. Have to give LAFC credit. Deserved to go through. Hopefully that works out as well for them as it did for Sporting KC last year.
I guess Leon is in tough stretch of their season and this game fell perfectly for LAFC. That being said, we’ve seen this tournament destroy MLS team’s regular season after advancing far in CCL. That’s my only hope is that this success sabotages their regular season.
It was a well-coached game by Bob, in fairness. A good performance for a team that's had trouble getting it done at home.
I understand it’s LAFC but I still like MLS beating LigaMx. Now I hope Galaxy does same next time we get a chance.
I don't want anyone to win this competition but us. And I prefer just about any team but LAFC win it.
An LAFC fan, and supporter's group member died due to COVID-19. He made the Daily Mail. RIP. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...-coronavirus-following-trip-Disney-World.html https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10157581704334143&set=a.10151701157319143&type=3&theater RIP.
That is sad, scary and indicting. Sad (devastating) for his family and friends. Scary that the virus was again lethal to someone that young. And it indicts Disney for keeping their parks open way after it was safe to do so. Can you imagine a better vector for the virus than a crowded theme park where everyone takes the same rides, stands in the same lines and handles the same gift shop merchandise? And of course the visitors come from all over the country (and world) and then go back home and spread it in their hometowns. Disney knew it was dangerous but decided the bottom line was more important than the safety of their customers and the US at large. That is criminal negligence. Nothing will happen to the execs who made the decisions to say open - but it should.
