well once again old truth that away games are most fun has been proven, so here are some of my favorite moments: Giving Sam rookie sh1t for 4 days, glad he had good time. Waiting in Budget rent-a-car lne for half hour at 12am just to find out they have no cars available (thanks for letting people know a$$holes) Hanging banners at empty HDC on Saturday with Chico, K, Paul, Marcel, Jay and Pat, then pilling out of van on a way out to run up to KC practice and hackle them. Advance warning of things to come Look on Bo's face from begining of warmup to end of first half. He was one second from either charging us or curling up in fetal position at any given moment. Tablerolls at the begining of the game, great job Tim and guys that helped him. Front office people saying "this is so much fun" after singing and chanting with us. Great way to see game from our perspective. Dema blocking shot with his arm, then turning to us 10 feet away and putting his finger over his lips to quiet us down. 3 great goals and an evil one happening right in front of us, felt like I could reach out and touch the ball (apparently Dema thought so too ) Security taking away drumsticks and guys druming with beer bottles till Mike Mohammed got sticks back. What are yours?
1. When I went Chico, K, Paul, Marcel, Srdan and Pat to hang up the banners we momentarily wore MLS CUP Staff passes. We had to turn them in when we were done under the guise that they never print enough but I think it was because they feared what we could of done with them at the game. 2. Again when we were hanging up banners I walked out onto the field at the HDC and I just knew that we were going to win. I tugged the net and said this is where Esky is going to put the ball tommorow. It was very very close to the location where he sloted the second goal home. 3. Najas is just a great bar and I had a great time watching the drug running. 4. Getting under the skin of Bo. He mooned us, taunted us and talked back to us. It was great. 5. Kissing the MLS Cup. 6. The Bride and Groom.
28 oz beers at Naja's The Chick with the Thong Getting a bottle of Captain Morgans at KMart Getting in that Gals fans face at the Hollywood bash (I was ready to kick some ass) Putting up banners at the HDC with some great people Sipping icy cold Margaritas INSIDE the HDC! Going nuts for 90 minutes with the greatest fans in American Soccer Getting to touch The Cup Hot Dogs wrapped in bacon for $2 after the game Enjoying a Victory cigar at the postgame tailgate feeling totally drained
Earnie's dance behind the net after the own goal Josh Wolff nailing me in the face with the ball me and vlad rushing the parking lot and opening it Barra-style my ejection from the stadium and quick return back in the ovations for Earnie and Jaime at the party ryland dennis--clown prince of MLS Bo dropping Trou
Getting into Bo's head and his miscues on goal kicks Helping to decorate the goal in red, black and white streamers after Eski's first goal The shocked silence after KC scored the first goal so early, followed up a few minutes later with chants of "DC United" Banging on El Bombo Splitting my pants from celebrating the first goal, and having the split get bigger for goals number 2 and 3 - and being happy that there was a Sears on the way to Torrence Meeting Nick Rimando's dad, who shook my hand and told me "man, I am sooooo proud of my son" Kissing the MLS Cup trophy Hearing Earnie's speech Hearing Eski's speech Hearing Nellie's speech Hell, hearing Piotr's speech too Talking to Petke about the trivia contest coming up this week Telling Eski not to get too drunk before they he and the rest of the team went out to get too drunk Hanging out with my father-in-law and his wife
oh yeah, i forgot to add: Freddie introducing me to his mom and her hugging me and saying how much she appreciates how the Barra has "looked after my boy" and supported him.
This comment along with so many others brings tears to my eyes. This is what the beautiful game is about. We support these guys through the valleys and the mountains and even their families know it. I think this is a testament to how awesome DC United and its fans are!
1. The Duff beer tap at Naja's 2. Catching a buzz, but staying relatively coherent so I could remember and enjoy everything. 3. Seeing over 100 United fans rock the stands 4. A Kansas City fan coming over to our section after the game congratulating us on the victory. 5. The entire United section heckling a Metros fan we spotted and chanting "6-2, 6-2, 6-2!!!" 6. Andy traveling all the way from Africa for the game. 7. The perfect end to a great season.
The Barra looking after her boy. Hmm... My moments include Chico's limo service -- why look to see where we're going? Back in Black at Naja's The tailgate pictures with the red-eyed skull (before) and the four stars (after) Goals. Lots of goals Mike Lastort's gracious indefinite loan of one fine Cuban cigar Driving around LA with the Bomba in the back of the car My picture with our cup Drinking at the Irish bar with the team and watching the beer fly everywhere Getting more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep on sunday
Yes. Yes. One of my top five also. That and the bacon wrapped hot dogs. I also liked the part when Bo was doin' that ridiculous warming up stickin' his a$$ in the air and the sections just erupted into mocking hysteria...classic. Tony's Bitch indeed. Tim
$600 for planes tickets $250 for hotel room $50 for Game tickets Making sure my brother was there... PRICELESS
A lot has been covered already: 1) Taunting Bo 2) Placing both hands on the cup and palming the soccer ball on top (I'm sure MLS heads were cringing when they saw Nellie pass the Cup to the fans!) 3) Bacon wrapped hot dogs 4) Being in LA for 40 hours and being drunk for 20 of them 5) Taking over Naja's Sunday night and singing DC United chants 6) And finally: We got our Cup back, We got our Cup back!
I wanna hear more details 1.) HOW DID ROB GET BACK IN? (is the old walk back wearing a tricky costume like a SHIRT trick as easy to pull in LA as DC?) 2.) DID ANYONE SEE OR MEET THE LEGENDARY KNAVE???????????????????? (Surprised to not hear ANYTHING on this front... for all the $hit the guy gets here he had to have introduced himself!)
Knave did come by and introduce himself at the end of the game (I guess he was sitting elsewhere during Seemed like a regular guy, maybe it was Dr Jekyll persona
I saw Knave, and actually talked to him briefly, too. Of course I also met him earlier this year when I went out for the LA-DC game. Nice guy, as far as I can tell. We should hold a fund raiser to fly him out to a game at RFK next season. Of course, he has to pay for our beer once he gets here.
Dammit... No Napolean hat? --I am sure Knave is probably a nice enough guy. Sad he didnt party with you more though. If he could hang with BenC1357 I figured he could hang with you guys.
LA moment that stuck in my mind: After the game, Red&Black dancing on the hood of our rental car to Korn's version of Word Up! I tell you, he dances like a white boy ;-)
