I can't help but think how he kept asking guys like Scholl and other former players whether he should retire or not. Scholl even made a deal with him saying if he feels like it's time, he'll be the first to call him and tell him so. I believe this has to have been on his mind for quite a while. When he left the national team he said he couldn't get out of bed without being in pain. I think this puts his return to the national team for one last ride much more in context.
How can we not be sentimental about Kroos and others like him. I feel bad for folks who for one reason or another aren't able to experience these emotions. Over the years we have dedicated so much time and put in so much mental energy and emotion into Real Madrid, how can we not feel deeply connected to it and feel kinship with a person who seems to love the club like we do. And people like Kroos are more relatable for people like us because he is so grounded and seems like someone you could have a real conversation with plus he was absolute class on and off the pitch. Very easy to like. It's a big loss for our Madridista family. Hopefully we will see him around the club in the future. He has chosen to remain in Madrid and continue to make it a home for his family so who knows, maybe he starts coaching some kids in a couple of years and who would be surprised if he becomes a good coach although i can see him not having enogh patience for everything else that comes with being a coach at the top level. I think his mentality also fits well with the administrative side of the club. Anyway, i hope that after saturday he goes back home with another winner's medal and when he's sitting on his couch, he feels satisfied about his time with the club. We'll miss him terribly and next season we will go through this again with Luka. As a side note: I want to say this in the most positive of contexts, but i hope people like Sergio saw the events at the stadium last saturday and felt a little bit of regret, they deserved something similar but chose to forgo this in favor of more millions. I don't judge them, it's their life but what Kroos and his family experienced on Saturday is priceless.
it was the perfect timing for him. The league was secured by the time of his last home game where Real Madrid could hold an actual farewell party amidst a happy league winning campaign. And the Champions League Final will be his last game in the club level. He can tie Gento's record of winning 6 EC/CL titles. The European Championship is being held at home. On top of that, he is still a star player. No Real Madrid or German fans want him to go. I love Marcelo, but his farewell has a different feeling. This can be his dreamlike perfect ending. I can't think of another example. Zidane's perfect ending ended with one of his worst moments of his career.
Unpopular opinion probably but the player I see covering his position next year is Alaba. He's great with the ball on his legs and organizing the game and can have players around him running a lot. I don't want him at lb at all and on cb militao and rudiger seem like a good pair.
Not a bad idea. He has played well in the midfield, but he might not be the same player after the ACL injury.
I don't understand why many don't want Alaba to be playing more when he's healthy. He has been a great addition to the team and he's a great player overall.
Fantastic ending to a fantastic career. He and his wife have both proclaimed that they'll be staying in Madrid as they now see it as their home. Would love for Toni to take some time off then join the team at some official capacity like other former legends.
Kroos and Dani, name me a more iconic duo for a midfield and FB. and what an amazing end providing that assist to Dani on the final itself. Man, I'll miss watching those cross field to Dani from Kroos..
