Didn't see a thread on this, so thought I would post the official news. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=278216&cc=5901 As an aside, I'm pushing internally to get it on the ESPN home page. No luck yet.
It's official The news is on MLSNET.com: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/mls0923kse.html Possible stadium to be ready by 2006. Great news all around.
How is it that one day the Rapids aren't even being considered for a SSS and then the next day they are almost assured of one by 2006? I guess it's like rubbing salt in the wounds for the MetroStars who still can't work something out. By the way denver_mugwamp what are you talking about 12 to go?
Sounds like he's referring to an ultimate vision where there's a 16-team MLS, whereas future expansion teams would have to have their own SSS's in place as a condition of their admission into the league. I know that's something Don Garber has mentioned in the past... In any event, congrats to MLS and to the Rapids and their fans. Just another sign of the growth being enjoyed by our league. Bit by bit, it's all coming together.
St. Phil Indeed Once again Phil comes through. He sells to the best possible ownership, cuts his losses as he heads toward profit from MLS, and deserving Rapids fans can look forward to years of soccer specific stadium fun. Let's change the name of the MLS Cup, right now, to the St. Phil cup. Hunts already have the Open Cup. Do it now, and get it over with.
Congrats Rapids. Tito, get me a tissue... Ppl on the Rapids boards have been talking about this for at least a few months. Looks like Kroenke is well-connected enough to pull off the double-whammy announcement (kinda makes it an even bigger story and draws more interest).
