Fair play? Haha, Uruguay and Portugal won't look good on that front after their game tonight. Uruguay and Ghana will be a bloodbath too, considering their history.
Looks like KJS is introspective and disappointed in his performance. Feel bad for the guy even though I think the criticism is warranted.
I love Sonny, but perhaps we should bench him vs Portugal. His directness and dribbling is being seriously hampered by his injury. I may be reading too much into his body language, but he looks like a shell of himself because he's hesitant to take on defenders. I mean I get it. He's taking a huge risk by playing and he inspired the entire team by showing up, but he hasn't offered anything tangible in the two games that we played. Also, I have no idea why Bento benched Lee Jae-sung. He was one of the livelier and better performers when we faced Uruguay. What was it that he saw that we didn't?
If POR v URU draws then points will be: POR 4 GHA 3 URU 2 KOR 1 Then in the last match, even if we beat Portugal, we don't really have a straight path without going to GD etc. Last day POR 4 KOR 4 GHA Draw 4/Win 6/Loss 3 URU Draw 3/Loss 3/Win 5 Bst scenario would be: URU beats Portugal today and then Ghana last day and we beat Portugal on last day. In which case even a 1-0 win over Portugal will do.
If they tie, we can advance if we beat Portugal. GD will be the same for POR and KOR. Tie will be the best scenario for us.
If Portugal and Uruguay tie and Korea beat Portugal by 2 goals Korea are through. Korea 1W !T !L GD +1 Portugal 1W 1T 1L GD -1 If U x G G 1W 2L G x U U 2T 1L G and U tie U 3T G 1W 1L 1T GD 0 - > Korea top the group
Korea were in as bad or even worse a condition that this in some Asian Cup group stages but pulled through for the last 25 years or so. But that does not mean they will this time. I will be satisfied with a draw with Portugal even though it probably means the last place.
It's specifically a 0-0 draw that would be best. In fact, any other draw (1-1, 2-2 etc) would be terrible since it means we would need to beat Portugal by two goals or more (which ain't happening) to advance.
I was going to try to compute your scenario but Ronaldo just scored so no point now. Now, the best scenario is Uruguay beats Portugal today and hope they beat Ghana. And we beat Portugal where a 1-0 win will suffice. Can't see us beating Portugal by a bigger margin than that, given everything including our injuries.
looks like theres no clean way for us to advance anymore. I think I will accept a 1-1 draw as that still leaves us in control of our own destiny (We need to beat Portugal 2-0 to advance). Pretty much the same circumstance as the last few world cups
All over. Portugal scored. It is not like beating Portugal by 2 goals is much harder than by 1 goal. They are nearly impossible anyway.
Is our team simply not capable of creating build-up chances? Every time we receive possession in the final third, there's always a momentary pause before the ball is passed. Our players are technically capable, but why do we have absolutely ZERO creativity in front of goal?
POR 6 URU 4 KOR 4 GHA 3 it all depends on GD and GF. Currently, both have -1 as GD. We have more GF. So if they score only 1 goal and we score 1+ goal, we advance. URU is in such a shit form. Doubt they will beat Ghana.
The most realistic, albeit slim, chance is Por x Uru 1-0 Uru x Gha 1-0 Korea x Por 1-0 Korea and Portugal go through.
Korea need to beat Portugal by the same or s greater margin than Uruguay beat Ghana. If the same, the total number of goals should be fewer or if the same, lower fair play score.
