Klose or Gomez, who should start for Germany?

Klose´s past deeds shouldn´t play a big role for the present and future German team imho. The way I see it, Gomez has a slight edge now and if the season progresses with Gomez staying healthy and in form, it´s very likely he will stay in Jogi Löw´s first XI!

Btw I am not saying Klose is bad, but when both are in form then Gomez is a world class striker and Klose a level below that in my opinion.

To put it simply. Klose is a good striker for the NT, who is quite reliable. With Gomez, when playing with confidence, we have imho an upgrade to Klose in every way, besides some little short passing.

In a way to let Klose in the first XI is a bit like like letting Mertesacker in the team, instead of Hummels, but well that´s another story(poll).;)

P.S.: To see who voted for whom, you have to click on the blue number.

I'm saying it's rigged! Five votes already for Gomez and none for Klose? It's worse than Mugabe... It's Jack Warner! :p

Klose will be 34 for the Euro 2012. I have never seen a striker even close to being good enough at the highest level at that age. Also, before Klose had energy to play for Germany but now when he plays every game for Lazio it will be really hard for him to keep up. If Gomez keeps playing the way he did against Belgium then there is no doubt who should start.
I would like to see Schieber coming back from injury and doing well in the Bundesliga and Petersen looks very good.

DerChef: Well as long as no other Klose supporter complains that this is a Fifa style vote, I will assume you just clicked wrong!^^

I personally think Volland and Lasogga are tow very good striker prospects.

Lasogga ha 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 games this season. Consider its his first Bundesliga season, i m more than impressed. And lets dont forget he's just 19 and started his professional career last season. He is slow and clumsy BUT he is probably the most clinical predator throughout all the German strikers, he has great instinct and positioning for goals. Thats more important for a striker than pace n agility imo

Kevin Volland has shown GREAT talent in the 2Bundesliga. We'll have to observe how the 19 year old will do in the 1BL next season, but he reminds me of a young Benjamin Lauth in his prime, technical and a good scorer with an allrounded game. 6 goals and 4 assists in 10 2BL games.

Lasogga and Volland cant be worse than Cacau n Kiessling, and i think both are better prospects than Schieber n Nils Petersen anyway

BTW, my suggestion is to play Thomas Mueller up top to free up a starting RW place for Goetze.

    ---Goetze---------Oezil--------Schuerrle
    -----------------T.Mueller

Mueller has great off-the-ball movement n instinct for goals, we can also create chances by his off-the-ball n passing.

N lets dont forget Mueller started his career at CF for Bayern youth teams n Bayern II.

In Loew's system, we dont need a towering classic #9 up top anyway, we need more free roaming n Mueller is very capable of doing it

Past? I thought he was scoring right until he got injured for the last 2 games. And then he started scoring in club football too.

I don´t think so, and I have really seen a lot of Klose and Gomez. Goals like the one against Turkey is something I haven´t seen from Klose in a long time. And I am not even mentioning that Klose couldn´t shoot like that with his left foot, if he would beat a defender like that. Ahm okay now I did...

P.S.: He falls over more than Klose, because he is much faster than Klose now. (Hint you never see Merte fall over...)

Kirsten19, are you okay ? How is life going ?
I dont know how many times you've already stated that Muller should be striker to free up space for Goetze and that Volland reminds you of a young Benjamin Lauth. This is absolutely ridiculous.

For me, it's not even a contest, it's Miro. Unless his level drops, I don't value Gomez is the better option. The way I see it, Miro still offers more than Gomez does, especially in creating opportunities for scoring. When Germany is playing on the defense, Klose is not nearly as invisible. When the team is on the attack, of course Gomez is always because he is the target man. The problem with that is there is, for the most part, a funnel through which scores are directed. With Miro, the attack and aggressive flow of the game (from Germany) is less predictable.

I know this is really not important, but I can't stand seeing the torero after Gomez scores. Pretend you're eating a pretzel or something. You're scoring for Germany, not barbaric bull murderers.

    Pros for Gomez:
-Physically stronger than Klose (More stamina, pace and strength)
    -Can shoot "rechts(right) wie links(left)" (O-Ton löw)
    -Way younger than Klose
-Plays on a higher level consistently with Bayern, than Klose with Lazio
-Even better chemistry with his Bayern team mates in the NT, because he always trains and plays with them at Bayern (especially with Müller here)
-Is more selfish before the goal (yes a pro for me, since Klose takes not enough shots in front of the goal and exaggerates his unselfishness imo)
-Better at beating defenders with the ball
-Better goal instinct. - Therefore gets into way more goal scoring positions
-With his immense physical presence he can help out more defensively than Klose (and really does, especially at standards).

    Cons against Gomez:

    -Sucks at being a sub...
-His first touch, passing and ball keeping abilities are somewhat below Klose (when not fully confident)
    -Less experience in tournaments
-Klose needs slightly less shots to score than Gomez
-Is another Bayern player (this one is for Squid;))

I think Gomez offer more work defensively. I see Gomez usually as the first line of defence and willing to work himself harder than Klose who I mostly see strolling around the field.

    Physically Gomez offers much more.

What Klose has over Gomez significantly is link up play and being at the right place.

Most of Kloses goals were basically tap ins. Almost all scored inside the box. Someone mentioned Klose scored 9 goals, Can you remember some of these goals? One was an Ozil shot going to the net that klose had the faintest of touches on others simple tap ins.

Can someone remind me the last time Klose took on a defender like Gomez did vs Turkey or scored a ferocious shot from outside the box?

Gomez throws himself around more thats why despite the amazing number of chances he misses, He still scores an incredible number.

After that Austria miss in 2008 I never thought I could be a Gomez fan and didnt even like the purchase when bayern made it, but in the last 2 seasons he has won me over. While Klose was just pissing all over the Alianz Arena like he wasnt getting paid.

Any post of Kirsten19 must be about youth players. I bet he is worse than LvG.

The solution to every problem is Lassoga, Mlapa and Volland

I'm glad you edited this, because the original version was too much. We don't need to quite that aggressive.

Can you pick a worse time for a poll? Popular opinion will hugely favour Gomez atm. If you did it in 2 weeks, you might get some clearer results.

Back to the topic, Klose for me.

He is more proven in the big games.
