Kerry strikes out as Boston Red Sox leave him red-faced

SENATOR John Kerry’s efforts to portray himself as "just a regular American guy" suffered a blow this weekend when he comprehensively messed up the scoreline at a game featuring his beloved Boston Red Sox.

Twice on Sunday, the Democrat said he was basking in the glory of Boston’s 10-9 win on Saturday night. The problem was, the Red Sox won 11-9.

"Ten-nine, the Sox did fabulous," Mr Kerry said with a big smile as he ducked into church on Sunday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Inside, the minister asked worshippers to clap "if the Lord has done anything wonderful in your life this week", to which Mr Kerry applauded.

"I had a special reason to clap," Mr Kerry explained. "The Red Sox won 10-9."

Mr Kerry’s spokesman, David Wade, said the senator got the score wrong because 10-9 was the last update he got during his late-night flight to Florida.

The problem is, the score never was 10-9. The Sox won on a two-run homer, meaning they went from nine runs to 11. Regardless, Mr Kerry’s adviser, Mike McCurry, explained to reporters: "The senator had bad intelligence last night."

However, the confusion struck again within hours of his team’s second game.

Landing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Democratic candidate bounded off the plane wearing his Red Sox cap to exclaim:

    "Seven-one Red Sox!"

The Red Sox were winning 6-1 at the time. They went on to win 6-2.

This guy can't keep track of a baseball score and you want him to keep track of explosives?

I knew immediately that this was an Ian thread when I saw it.
Bush can't say nuclear. He once said "is our children learning". But Kerry missing a scoreline of a game by 2 runs is somehow serious?
Jeeeeeeesus. When does this become self parody?

Yeah, it was an error that might make him look silly to maybe 200 people (of which Ian is one), but not nearly as dumb as a president who pronounces 'nuclear' nook-you-ler....or loses 380 tons of explosives.

That's true, we didn't lose them.

    They were stolen.

From a place that we checked on in March 2003, and they were there then.

    Then they weren't there.

    Because we didn't protect them.

    760,000 pounds of explosives.

How could we protect them if we weren't there?

Your link goes to the intern story that destroyed the Kerry candidacy back in June.

Why, because the news is only going to get worse for Dubya? Do you want to take on the missing weapons story, too?

This is the time of the year when this forum is at its most essential.

What a shock, a Republican who wants to do away with a place that supplies negative news about the administration. Nothing to see here folks. Carry on.

    Let's do the math:

    ....
"The materials were lost through “the theft and looting of the governmental installations due to lack of security,” the letter said.

The letter informed the IAEA that since Sept. 4, 2003, looting at the Al-Qaqaa installation south of Baghdad had resulted in the loss of 214.67 tons of HMX, 155.68 tons of RDX and 6.39 tons of PETN explosives. "

Sept 4, 2003...Ummm, that'd be 13 months, 21 days ago.... I guess Karl Rove is off by 5 months, if we go by his rant against the New York Times as biased and playing politics (He claims these stockpiles were lost about 18 months ago-conviniently close to the beginning of the Iraq campaign).... But i'm sure his number slip-up is nothing compared to the serious charges regarding Kerry getting a playoff game score wrong, right Ian?

    A) I'm not a Republican. I never have registered as a Republican. I have voted for a party other than Dem or Rep about 1/3 of the time for President. I have voted for more Dem Senators and Representatives than Republican. This year I will vote for a Dem Senator and a Republican Representative.

    B) This thread has turned into yet another cry fest by the Left because many tonight don't accept their "fact" about the ammunition (link). If it were Bush that misquoted the score from two games I would expect the "Bush Lied" charge to be made. Someone would make a joke or two about Bush's IQ. People who had some presepective would be accused of "Drinking the Cool Aid". It's the Left on this forum that tries to shut the other side up and whines to the Mods.

That is why this forum should be shut down. It can serve a purpose after the result is known but not while all the partisans beleive that if they can find just one more bad thing to say about the other side then the election will turn. I doubt if even 2% of the readers of this forum haven't already made up their mind on how to vote.

Then again maybe you can tell us about your knowlege of chess history. I find it entertaining.
